The Balsalt Root Earth Dragon.
A steady ally for Oval One,
Scattered energy,
And that I-can't-quite-land feeling.
So welcome.
Today I want to introduce you to a very particular Earth Dragon.
The Balsalt Root Earth Dragon.
Not a fleshy dragon,
Not a big vision dragon.
This one is an ancient,
Quite practical dragon and loves the peace and quiet.
The one you can call in when your energy is everywhere,
When your mind is buzzing and when your body feels like it never fully arrives.
So this dragon is an art type that rises from a meeting place between fire and earth.
Balsalt is dark,
Fine-grained volcanic rock that forms when lava cools quickly at or near the surface.
And there is a part I love,
Because a huge portion of the ocean floor is actually balsalt.
Earth's deep foundation wearing a dark,
Steady skin.
So when we say Balsalt Root,
We're naming an energy that feels like the weight of the earth that holds us up.
A cooling of heat into steadiness and a deep foundation that doesn't argue with the world.
Even the word itself carries a symbolic thread.
Balsalt traces back through the old language roots connected to a hard stone or touchstone.
Something used to test what is true.
And that's exactly what this dragon does energetically.
It helps you separate what is real from what is the noise.
The Balsalt Root Earth Dragon carries grounding without heaviness.
So not to collapse,
Not to shut down,
But more like settle,
Simplify and return.
So when you're overwhelmed and when your system often tries to survive by scattering,
Multitasking,
Spiraling scenarios,
Nervous scanning,
Jumping from one thing to the next,
The Balsalt Root energy does the opposite.
It gathers you back into one place.
It has these signature gifts,
So to speak,
Like nervous system safety.
I'm here.
I'm held.
I slow down.
It has an energetic containment,
Less leakage into other people's moods and dramas and urgencies.
And it has a one-step clarity,
The ability to do the next right thing without needing to solve your whole life.
So if you want a simple image,
It's like a warm stone at the base of your spine,
Heavy enough to anchor and calm enough to quiet those inner alarms.
So I wanted to share this story,
This folklore story about this beautiful dragon.
It's the Touchstone Dragon.
Long ago,
A traveler carried a pouch of gold dust and a worry.
Every morning they checked the pouch.
Is it still here?
Is it enough?
What if I lose it?
And the more they checked,
The more their hands started to tremble until the dust spilled through their fingers.
One evening,
They found a cave with a smooth black stone at the entrance,
Cool,
Dark,
Ordinary.
And they sit down,
Exhausted,
And whispered,
I can't hold it on.
From the cave's deep belly,
There was this slow breath that moved.
Not like a hot fire,
But warm,
Like rebirth after a sunlight.
And a dragon emerged,
Black as basalt,
And eyes like quiet time.
The traveler held out their gold dust and asked,
Will this keep me safe?
And the dragon didn't answer with worry.
It just slid a single black stone forward,
A touchstone.
And the traveler felt their body drop into stillness.
And in that stillness,
The traveler understood.
Safety wasn't in the pouch.
Safety was in the ground beneath them.
Not in predicting every danger,
But in being present enough to respond.
The traveler stayed at the cave for three nights.
And each morning,
The dragon offered the same teaching.
Do not measure your worth in panic.
Measure your truth in presence.
And when the traveler finally left,
They carried less gold,
But they walked like someone who belonged to the earth.
And I wanted to share this evocation with you,
So that you can call in this beautiful dragon.
And you can kind of use this in the morning or any time that you feel unanchored.
An invocation for the basalt root earth dragon.
Ancient one beneath the world,
I call you now.
Gather my scattered energy back to me.
Bring my attention down into my body.
Cool the urgency.
Quiet the buzzing.
Let my feet be heavy with belonging.
Let my spine remember it to support.
Let my breath become slow and true.
Show me what is real.
Show me the next one step.
And ask me,
Walk this day steady,
Simple and safe.
Thank you.
Walk with me.
