In Day 5, we learn about breath sensing. When we start to observe our breath we notice the expansion and the contraction in our body as we notice our diaphragm engaging and releasing. The expansion growing big and expanding the contraction coming into neutrality

Welcome to Day 5 of Learning to Breathe with Carrie Joy of Sagewood Wellness.

Thank you so so much for joining me today.

So today we are going to work on breath sensing.

So we're going to sense the expansion and contraction in our breath cycle.

So what this means is just observing your ribs and your shoulders and your upper body or your whole body as we breathe in and expand and as we exhale and contract.

So this is very normal for us to do in a regular daily basis.

But when we start to actually bring attention to our breathing as we're doing in this course,

We then have a bit of a different view on breathing.

I think or feel most often that we take breathing to our advantage.

So when we bring that observation to it,

Then we become more in tune with our body.

We then can sense things a bit better.

So we're going to take a comfortable seat.

We're going to take a few rounds of just normal breathing.

In through the nose and out through the nose.

On our next inhale,

Start to sense the expansion.

As we breathe in,

We grow,

We expand.

Our body becomes bigger,

Whether this is in ribs,

Shoulders,

Chest.

And we exhale.

Feeling our body coming back in to neutral position.

Contracting.

Maybe you feel a little smaller right now,

Which is okay.

We're just sensing our expansion and contraction.

Becoming aware and giving ourselves a lot of grace through the process.

So inhale,

Our body's expanding.

Exhale,

Sense the contraction.

And if you are going the other way,

That's okay.

This is adaptive.

There's nothing wrong with that.

Inhale.

Expanding.

Exhale,

Feeling,

Noticing,

Observing the contraction.

Inhale,

Expansion.

Exhale,

Contraction.

Again,

Inhale.

Expansion.

And exhale,

Contraction.

One last inhale with expansion.

And exhale,

Contraction.

On our next inhale,

Let's just move back into a normal breath cycle.

And from here,

We're allowing our fingers to move and our toes coming back into the space and into observation of our practice.

We're noticing the temperature of the air on our skin.

And we're gently opening our eyes back into the room around us.

Taking a few moments to notice how it felt to observe and to sense our breath.

I look forward to seeing you on day six.

Thank you so much for joining me.

Again,

You can come to this practice anytime.

Have a wonderful day.
