Details

Women are handed a body along with a set of instructions for it. Be smaller. Be quieter. Be pleasant to look at. Don't need too much. Most of us learn these rules so early and follow them so well that they stop feeling like rules and start feeling like who we are. This retreat is a week of noticing where those rules live: in the breath you hold when someone looks at you, in the tight jaw, in the apology that arrives before the thought. The aim is not to fix or improve the body. It is to get to know it again, on your own terms. The work draws on the INBODY Method, a feminist somatic approach developed by Chartered Psychologist Ailey Jolie. It brings together body-based psychotherapy, nervous system science, and depth psychology, and it asks a political question alongside the personal one: who taught you to feel this way about your body, and why? Days at Blue Spirit in Nosara, Costa Rica, move between guided practice, movement, rest, and reflection, in a small, women-only group. You don't need any experience with somatic work. If you're new, this is a full introduction. If you're INBODY alumni, it completes the retreat requirement for certification. This retreat is education, not therapy. Working with the body can stir up strong feeling. You'll be supported throughout, and you can adapt or step out of any practice at any point.

Schedule

The retreat runs for seven nights, from Saturday 21 to Saturday 28 November, at Blue Spirit in Nosara. Each day is built around one of seven body stories: Day One, Saturday: Your Body, Society's Story Day Two, Sunday: The Lineage Story Day Three, Monday: The Food & Weight Story Day Four, Tuesday: The Relationship Story Day Five, Wednesday: The Stuff Inside Story Day Six, Thursday: The Pleasure Story Day Seven, Friday: Your Story (A Revision), where you write the story of your body in your own words Each full day has the same schedule, so you don't have to think about what comes next: 6:30 am – Morning meditation with Ailey, shaped by the day's theme 7:30 am – Breakfast 9:00 am – Somatic movement practice 10:00 am - Morning group session focused on embodied writing and practice 12:00 pm – Lunch 2:00 pm – Afternoon group session, with teaching, discussion and group somatic practice 4:30 pm – Free time and sunset 6:00 pm – Dinner together 7:30 pm – Evening practice, such as restorative yoga, sound bath or yoga nidra, followed by a closing reflection Dinners are facilitated, so there's space for you to create connection with other women on the retreat. There will be free time each day; it's real free time. You're welcome to use it however your body needs, including doing nothing at all. On arrival day, check-in opens at 4pm, with our first dinner at 6pm and the opening circle at 7:30pm. On Sunday morning, Blue Spirit runs a short guest orientation, so the morning schedule shifts slightly. The final evening on Friday ends with a closing ceremony, and on Saturday there's breakfast and a farewell circle before check-out at 10am. Each guest receives a retreat journal to use throughout the week. The retreat also includes two live online calls with the group: a pre-retreat call on Sunday 15 November to meet each other and prepare, and an integration call on Sunday 13 December, once you've had two weeks at home.
