This is a meditation I've created for those who are a little bit of a perfectionist.
So I'd like to encourage you to close down the eyes or lower the gaze.
And all you need to do during this time is just listen to my voice,
And perhaps focus on the breath if you find your attention waning.
Dear inner self,
I don't know when you became a perfectionist,
But somewhere along the way that happened.
If you think hard enough,
I imagine you can find the high expectations that were etched on your impressionable young mind.
A mind that was too young to know to question and analyze,
And to only take on what felt right,
Realistic and true.
That young mind which told you,
You are not enough.
Not enough unless you always do the right thing.
Not enough unless everyone is happy with you at all times.
And not enough unless you are perfect in every way.
I imagine that you are likely a sensitive soul who took these expectations to heart,
Trying to always do the right thing and please people.
But if you challenge your current mind,
Your adult mind,
A mind that has been taught to critically analyze information,
I invite you to realize that those high expectations were never meant for you.
That they were never set in stone,
Nor were they meant to be applied to every area of your life.
That those unrealistic expectations of perfection may have inadvertently been passed down to you by other beautiful imperfect human beings who influenced you as a child and as you grew.
And it's very likely that these well-meaning people were just struggling to make sense of the world themselves,
Putting too much pressure on themselves.
And that they didn't realize that they were passing these down the line to another sensitive soul.
So my dear inner self,
I encourage you to see it for exactly what it is.
Well-meaning advice that you perhaps took to your sensitive heart that no longer serves you.
To you dear perfectionistic mind,
I want you to know that you are wonderful exactly as you are.
Maybe not perfect in every way,
But perfect in every way that matters.
And for the parts of you that are not perfect,
That's okay too.
Just do your best and know that that's good enough.
I want you to know that it's okay to make mistakes,
Even if it feels bad at the time.
If you don't make mistakes,
It means you're not trying anything new.
It means that you're shying away from life,
Peeking out from the shadows,
Ruled by fear,
Too afraid to try.
So please show up and make those mistakes.
I want you to forgive yourself when things go wrong,
To look for the lesson,
To learn and to grow,
To place a hand on your heart and say,
It's okay,
I've got you.
I want you to practice the most beautiful,
Kind,
Loving and compassionate self-talk,
Until it is the only language that you speak.
Until that inner critic,
That judgmental voice,
Sounds so foreign that the language is almost unrecognizable to you.
That it is so drowned out,
So distant,
That it is barely audible.
I want you to know that you are enough.
You hold your own special place in this world,
On this earth.
You are loved,
You are supported,
You are perfect exactly as you are,
Flaws and all.
And until you know this with every cell and fiber and essence of your being,
Hold that space for yourself and settle into the knowledge that you are enough.
