Welcome to your Invitation to Sleep Well Tonight meditation.
And the stars.
By a mountain stream.
So first make yourself comfortable.
In your favorite position for falling asleep.
And gently close your eyes.
Take a slow,
Full,
Deep breath.
And let it go.
It's time to set the world aside.
Time to let go of your day.
And begin your gentle transition into sleep.
Take another slow breath.
Full deep breath And as you let go of it,
Breathe out tension.
All there is to do right now is relax.
Rest.
And restore.
Imagine you're walking along a path by a mountain stream.
On a crisp autumn afternoon.
Perhaps it's a Sunday.
And you can relax.
As you walk along.
You can feel the ground beneath your feet.
And hear the gentle sound of the water.
You can hear it's changing song.
As you walk upstream.
Watching and noticing where the water is shallow.
And rushes over the rocks.
It's bright and bubbly.
And noticing where the stream is wider.
And the water becomes deeper.
Tranquil.
And calm.
Moving with grace as it passes on its way.
All around you can smell the scent of pine.
The sweet fragrance of nearby plants along the water's edge.
Perhaps looking into the stream you can see plants weed being.
Carried.
And flowing along in the stream.
Perhaps a few small trout waiting for food in the current,
Darting here and there.
In a shallow pool.
A pretty stone catches your eye reflecting the late sun.
Through the water.
You dip your hand into the cool water.
To pick it up.
Examining it more closely you see finely webbed patterns etched into its flat oval surface.
When you consider whether it might be a fossil of some kind.
An echo of a life lived here ages ago.
Put the stone in your pocket.
And continue walking on.
Soon your path widens out into a meadow.
By the stream.
When you find your campsite is waiting for you.
It's a place in nature you've visited many times before.
A familiar place where you can find peace and quiet.
We always feel totally Safe.
Totally comfortable.
And utterly at home here.
There's a log fire surrounded by stones waiting for you.
Burning softly.
And nearby is a soft bed.
Of pine needles.
Perfect place to unroll.
Your sleeping mattress.
Your sleeping bag.
It's starting to get late.
And the sun is going down.
As you watch across the skies.
The first stars have already begun.
To come out.
You're feeling quite tired.
From your long hike along the stream.
This afternoon.
So you sit down on your bed.
And take in the deep feeling of peace that's here for you.
Perhaps you take out the stone from your pocket.
And look at it again in the firelight.
Letting the light from the fire cast patterns.
That you can admire across the surface of the stone.
As you become a bit more drowsy.
The fire is burning down to embers.
Wormglide.
And it's getting hard to keep your eyes open.
So you climb into your sleeping bag.
And settle onto and into your comfy bed.
As you look back up at the stars,
All have come out now.
And you can see the Milky Way painting.
The dark night sky.
More stars than you could ever count.
And just as you're closing your eyes.
A bright shooting star crosses the sky.
Above you.
Signalling the wish.
Of a perfect end to your day.
And it's time to slip into sleep now.
Feeling your body beginning to relax further.
Starting with your feet.
Allowing all the tension to drain out of them.
They've worked hard for you today.
And deserve a rest.
And so the relaxation in your feet.
Winds its way into your ankles.
Your calves.
Around your shins and your knees.
As you start to feel.
The relaxation.
Around your upper legs.
And your hips.
And your buttocks.
Feel this relaxation flowing up into your abdomen.
And lower back.
And your upper back.
And chest.
Feel this peaceful relaxing feeling.
Flowing all the way down your arms.
Into your hands.
And out of your fingertips.
Feeling it flowing.
Into your neck.
Faith.
Your whole body becoming perfectly calm.
Relaxed.
And ready for sleep.
All the conditions.
To facilitate.
Wonderful sleep.
And just to make sure there's nothing left.
Between you and a gentle.
Full night's rest.
You can imagine that the very top of your head opens.
And out flow.
Any thoughts?
That might still be trapped inside.
Floating,
Away.
To find their way into the beautiful starry night sky.
Where they drift up and out of sight Silence.
