This healing meditation is for use when recovering from an episode of low blood sugar or hypoglycemia. It helps the listener to find peace and calm while their blood sugar rises. It is not intended to cure or treat low blood sugar and should only be used after treating low blood sugar with food, glucose tabs, or other sources of sugar. It has a 15-minute timer so the listener can recheck blood sugar level. Music by SimonDaum, Alexander_Blu, and Amusic7

Hi,

This is Patricia Daker with Better Diabetes Life.

Welcome to my meditation series that promotes wellness and healing for people living with diabetes.

This meditation is to help you recover when your blood sugar gets low,

A condition called hypoglycemia.

If your blood sugar is low now,

You may be feeling anxious,

Dizzy,

Sweaty,

Hungry,

Or many other uncomfortable symptoms.

Before beginning this meditation,

Be sure you have treated your low blood sugar according to your doctor's plan.

This meditation can help pass the time it takes for your blood sugar to come up.

If at any time you feel your blood sugar is still getting lower,

Please stop,

Take some more glucose,

Or call for help if necessary.

Hypoglycemia engages your fight or flight response,

Which can be very uncomfortable.

This meditation will help you to recover from hypoglycemia and feel more calm and peaceful while your blood sugar stabilizes.

We'll use breathing and imagery to help you through this experience.

Let's begin.

Be sure you are sitting or lying down and as comfortable as possible.

Acknowledge that right now your body is fighting to survive and you need to help it.

You can help your physical self by using the mental and spiritual sides to promote healing and restore normal blood sugar levels.

Right now,

Everything else can wait.

We'll use deep and intentional breathing in and out through our nose to tap into your parasympathetic nervous system,

Which is the opposite of the fight or flight response you are feeling now.

This practice slows down your heartbeat and helps to bring about healing and restoration of normal function.

As you do this breathing,

Inhale deeply through your nose and fill your lungs fully.

Imagine your breath expanding down into your belly.

As you exhale,

Breathe out completely,

Allowing your shoulders to relax and your muscles to loosen.

Imagine all stress and anxiety leaving your body with your breath.

We'll breathe into a count of four and exhale to a count of six.

Be sure to exhale longer than you inhale.

This helps with the healing.

As you inhale,

Imagine ease and peace flowing into your body.

See the glucose stores releasing life-giving sugar into your bloodstream.

As you exhale,

Imagine the sugar reaching every place it needs to be.

You don't have to know where this is.

Your body knows.

Just allow it to happen.

We'll do six rounds of breathing now.

Just listen to my voice and follow my count.

Breathe in two,

Three,

Four.

Your glucose level is rising.

Breathe out two,

Three,

Four,

Five,

Six.

You will feel better soon.

Breathe in two,

Three,

Four.

Sugar is entering the bloodstream.

Breathe out two,

Three,

Four,

Five,

Six.

You are recovering.

Breathe in two,

Three,

Four.

Your body is correcting everything it needs to.

Breathe out two,

Three,

Four,

Five,

Six.

These uncomfortable feelings will pass.

Breathe in two,

Three,

Four.

Healing and restoration is happening.

Breathe out two,

Three,

Four,

Five,

Six.

You are getting better.

Breathe in two,

Three,

Four.

This exercise is a benefit to your body.

Breathe out two,

Three,

Four,

Five,

Six.

All will be well.

Breathe in two,

Three,

Four.

Glucose is finding its way to every cell in your body.

Breathe out two,

Three,

Four,

Five,

Six.

Relax and allow your body to do what it must.

Now allow your breathing to flow on its own.

Notice any changes you may be experiencing.

Consider your thoughts.

If they are confused or scattered,

Know this is temporary.

The fog will clear.

Take another breath in and out.

You don't have to do anything right now,

But listen.

Just listen,

Relax,

And recover.

Put your hand on your chest.

Can you feel your heart?

Is it still pounding?

Breathe again and imagine it's slowing down and returning to normal.

Let the touch of your hand be of comfort to you.

That's it.

You're okay.

Your blood sugar is coming up.

Notice your appetite.

Are you still hungry?

Breathe in again and remind yourself that it takes a moment for what you ate to get to your bloodstream.

Thank your body for this hunger that brings you what you need.

Imagine the food or glucose you just ingested being absorbed from your stomach and flowing into your blood where it travels to all parts of you.

Give your body permission to make this function a priority.

Breathe again.

It's happening.

Your blood sugar level is coming up.

You will be okay soon.

This will pass.

Feel your skin.

Are you still sweaty?

If so,

Know your amazing body is offloading excess fluid to concentrate the sugar in your blood.

Relax and allow this to happen.

It is temporary but necessary.

Take another breath.

Let your face soften.

Unclench your jaw.

Let go of any racing thoughts.

Thank your body for doing what it does to restore balance.

Even if it's uncomfortable for the moment,

Offer gratitude that it knows the way back.

Give yourself permission to take all the time you need.

Low blood sugar to please your energy and you need this time to recover.

Lie still.

Listen to your breathing.

Take more deep and slow breaths if you need them.

Listen to the great wisdom in your body.

It knows what it needs.

Enjoy this relaxing music as long as you need.

A chime will sound at 15 minutes so you know when to recheck your glucose level.

Remember,

You are worthy,

You are deserving of good things,

And your body is a gift.
