Envy and jealousy often cause suffering. Learning to process both emotions and to embrace our full spectrum as feeling beings allows us to understand and accept our own nature. Once we accept who we are and why we do things, we can grow and heal. This guided meditation gives you the space for that understanding. Music by Fred Westra

This is a meditation for processing envy and jealousy.

So we start this meditation by thinking about why we feel anger,

Why we feel envy,

Why we feel jealousy.

And we start with the fact that what we envy,

What we're jealous of,

Is because someone has different results to what we have.

They have different things,

They are different people to what we are.

They have what we want or they are what we want to be.

But this requires us to look inside and look at the choices that we've made that have brought us to where we are,

To who we are.

Look within yourself before you start being envious of another person and see what it is that you're really really wanting to be or have and how your choices have brought you to a different place and have given you a different life to the one that you think you want.

And accept those choices because those choices have made you into the wonderful human being that you are.

They've helped you grow,

They've helped you learn.

Take a deep breath and hold yourself,

Really hold yourself and close your eyes or you can keep your eyes open.

Soften your gaze and take in who you are and what you are.

Really go inside yourself and really accept every choice you've made,

Every mistake because every mistake,

Every choice,

Every bad decision or good decision has brought you here today.

There is no bad decision,

There's only decisions.

They've brought you to who you are,

They've taught you what you have learned and a lot of it has served you to become who you are today.

And while you're here allow yourself the time to be and to love yourself for who you are.

Allow yourself the time to hold yourself,

To be with yourself.

Now the next part of the meditation is really about thinking about the things that you envy and what is behind that envy.

What void is there inside of you that you wish to fill?

What do you need?

What do you ultimately need from yourself?

What do you ultimately need from others?

What is it that will fill that huge void that causes you jealousy?

Because you feel it is filling somebody else's void.

It could fill your void you think,

But really it is only the external trappings,

It is only the outside,

The superficial manifestation of your void.

And really allow yourself to lie down,

Sit or stand in a place where you feel comfortable,

In a place where you can be yourself and you go inside,

Go deep inside yourself.

What would it take for you to fill that void?

What do you need from yourself?

Cross your hands over your heart and ask yourself that question and give yourself the time to answer.

Lie there and hold yourself,

Hold your own space,

Listen to yourself and stay inside your own gaze until you know what it is you need to give yourself.

And once you find it then you can actually start to fill that void with your own self,

Your own love,

Your own giving of yourself.

And stay here for as long as you need.

As long as you want.
