Are you an emotional eater? Do you reach out for food in order to make yourself feel better even though you're not hungry? Eating has a soothing effect on our system, however overeating can cause anxiety, shame and guilt. This self-soothing mechanism can lead you into a destructive cycle of | stress-> eat -> stress (reaction from overeating) -> eat |. This meditation will allow us to have a better relationship with our uncomfortable sensations(emotions), body and ourselves.

Hello everyone,

Are you an emotional eater?

Do you use food to comfort yourself and change how you are feeling?

Before we start this meditation,

If you wish you can grab a pen and paper and have it by your side just to give yourself some feedback after.

This meditation is aimed at you learning more about yourself and your particular habits and beliefs.

There's nothing you can do wrong during this meditation.

This is a pressure free meditation aimed at the exploration of yourself.

Having said all that,

Let's just gently close our eyes if you haven't already.

Coming into this particular moment,

Noticing how you're feeling,

How your body is,

Checking in with yourself.

Whatever feeling is coming up,

Whether it's pleasant,

Unpleasant or neutral,

We are just noticing it.

Allowing it to flow through you.

The music is here for you,

I am here for you,

The scent is here for you,

The sensations in your body are also here for you.

Do you notice yourself reacting to your sensations?

Maybe you are repulsed by them or favour one over the other.

Maybe you want to change them,

You are dissatisfied with them.

Your common reaction may be to comfort yourself with food.

If your body and mind is tired,

Bored,

Uncomfortable,

Stressed,

You may reject these states and reach out for food to comfort yourself.

May I ask the question of,

Why do you reject these states?

Sit with this question for a while,

Ponder upon it for the sake of curiosity.

Are you afraid of these states?

You think it's wrong that you're feeling uncomfortable,

Stressed or emotional.

Just remember that this meditation is for you.

There is no pressure to have all the answers or any answers at all.

Maybe to have no answer at all is the only answer you need right now.

Just sit for the next few moments in this space,

Noticing whatever comes up inside yourself.

Let it flow and go wherever it needs.

It's not wrong for your body to feel shifts,

Changes,

Sensations.

They come and go as life intended.

The most important question is,

How are you reacting?

With all your heart,

Notice this.

I am here for you on the other side of this recording.

Sometimes things may be intense for you,

Or you're going through a period of intensity,

Passionlessness or boredom.

The most important thing is not trying to get rid of it,

It's already there,

But reintegrating it back into your system.

Not viewing what's coming up as an enemy or a danger,

Viewing it as your friend,

As a form of stimulation.

Can you see the emotions and sensations that you've repressed for so long in a different way,

From a different light,

As we come to an end of this meditation?

I use the word end with hesitation,

Because this meditation never truly comes to an end.

Anytime you feel stressed,

Angry,

And you want to reach out to food for comfort,

Notice your reaction to these commonly felt sensations.

The reaction is information for you,

It's another piece to the puzzle.

Let's just move our bodies around now,

Waking ourselves back up,

And we are ready.

Opening our eyes,

Now that you have completed this meditation,

It proves that you have a willingness to be introspective,

And question your underlying belief systems.

Congratulations on that,

And I wish you a good day.

This meditation is wonderful. It gently invites you to look within and ask yourself the right questions. Well beyond food compulsions, it is about accepting our emotional states of stress, weariness, loneliness, fatigue. Many thanks to Nathan my teacher and friend.🙏
