Full moon yoga nidra for Kali Nidja.

Prepare for the practice of yoga nidra by lying on your back in shavasana.

If shavasana is not appropriate,

You can sit on a chair or maybe sit on the floor with your back against the wall.

Take any meditation position that's comfortable to you and say to yourself mentally,

I am practicing yoga nidra.

Say to yourself mentally,

I will stay awake for yoga nidra.

In yoga nidra it's best to remain still,

But if you find yourself uncomfortable,

Move to a position of comfort as mindfully and quietly as possible.

Say to yourself mentally,

I will remain still for yoga nidra.

Feel the body heavy.

Feel all the points of contact between the body and the floor.

Feel the entire body supported,

Feel the head supported and the shoulder supported.

Feel the arms supported and the hands supported.

Feel the back supported and the buttocks supported.

Feel the legs supported and the heels supported.

Feel the whole body supported,

Allowing the body to relax more deeply.

Take a deep breath in and on the exhale,

Think full moon.

At the full moon a door opens and through this opening energy and influences can be contacted which normally we are shut off from.

The energy around meditation and spiritual rituals is heightened during the time around and during the full moon.

The gravitational pull of the moon is an energy wave from the divine.

Kali-Nicca,

Although she shares the name Kali with the mother goddess,

She is not the same.

She is separate.

She is an attendant to the great mother.

She is a Nica.

She is a variation of Maha Kali.

Kali-Nicca is the Nica of emotions.

The full moon affects our emotions with its magnetic pull.

The full moon has the power and potential to produce needed changes in our consciousness.

Let's chant her name mentally.

Kali-Nicca,

The Nica of emotions.

Mentally repeat.

Om Kali Kaya Namaha.

Om Kali Kaya Namaha.

Om Kali Kaya Namaha.

Om Kali Kaya Namaha.

As the full moon slides towards waning,

We too begin to slide towards the releasing of energy.

This evening,

One day after the full moon,

Is the time to acknowledge the chaos that is surrounding you.

Don't stuff your emotions,

Instead express them through music,

Art,

And writing.

Act yourself as you are and use your feelings as tools for personal exploration.

Take a deep breath in and on the exhale,

Think emotions.

It's time for the Senkopa.

A Senkopa is a short positive statement in the present or future tense.

It's an affirmation,

A resolve,

An intention.

If you don't have a Senkopa you're working with,

Tonight perhaps you try this statement,

I am open to my emotions,

Or I am open to feeling my emotions.

Using one of these statements or your own personal Senkopa,

Repeat it three times mentally with full awareness and the confidence that it will come true.

Moving on to the rotation of consciousness through the body.

A body part will be named and either repeat the name mentally,

Bring awareness to the body part,

Or visualize a moon,

A full moon being placed on the body part.

I will cue a full moon.

See or feel a full moon on the right hand thumb,

Index finger,

Middle finger,

Ring finger,

Pinky finger.

See or feel a full moon on the palm of the hand,

Back of the hand,

Wrist,

Place a full moon on the instep,

The sole of the foot,

The top of the foot,

And then full moons across the right big toe,

Fourth toe,

And fifth toe.

Stay awake and aware and bring the full moons to the left side of the body beginning with a left hand thumb,

Left hand thumb,

Index finger,

Middle finger,

Full moon at the palm of the hand,

Back of the hand,

Wrist,

Elbow,

Place a full moon on that upper leg.

Travel down the left leg to the kneecap,

Sole of the foot,

Top of the foot,

And a full moon placed on the left big toe,

Second toe,

Third toe,

And fifth toe.

Stay awake and aware and bring the full moons to the top of the head.

Place one on the forehead,

The right temple,

The left temple,

The right eyebrow,

And a full moon at the eyebrow center,

The right ear placed one,

The bridge of the nose,

Right buttocks,

Left buttocks,

Lower back,

Middle back,

Upper back,

The entire spinal column,

Right shoulder blade,

Left shoulder blade,

Back of the neck,

Back of the head,

Top of the head,

And see full moons up and down the whole right arm,

And see full moons up and down the whole left arm.

See the full moons up and down the whole right leg.

See the full moons up and down the whole left leg.

See those moons on the front of the body.

See the moons on the back of the body.

And see the whole body together.

The whole body together.

Filled with moons,

Filled with light.

Let go of the moons,

Release them to the heavens,

Knowing they will visit you every month,

And they're there to watch over you.

And bring the awareness to the breath.

Center the attention on the feeling of the breath.

Inhale the natural breath.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Inhale.

Exhale.

And continue.

Observe the feeling tone in the mind.

Is the mind calm and peaceful?

Is there any agitation?

Are there feelings of happiness or sadness?

Or is the mind neutral?

Try to notice the emotional background to the breath.

As the breath is followed,

Become aware of any predominant emotions.

Is there any feeling that is strong enough to take away the attention from the breath?

If there is,

Make it the object of the meditation.

Name it.

Mentally note it.

Emotions,

Happiness,

Disappointment,

Disappointment,

Disappointment.

See if an emotion can be located in the body.

And then know what physical sensations are accompanying it.

Be with the emotion.

Let go of that emotion and consciously bring to mind now a difficult or troubling feeling or situation from the recent or distant past.

Find something that holds intense emotion for you.

Perhaps it's sadness or fear,

Shame,

Anger.

Feel the situation.

Perhaps you don't feel comfortable,

But stay with the practice.

Even if it becomes really uncomfortable,

Unbearable,

Just go back to the breath.

Go back to watching the breath.

And then bring the focus to the body part where the sensations are the strongest.

Become aware of where the sensations,

The emotions are the strongest.

And once you're there,

Do some kind of self-soothing.

Maybe you just tell yourself,

Telling the body part,

It's okay.

Accept the feelings,

Accept the emotions.

Just let them be and open to them.

And in this vulnerable state,

In this state of heightened sensitivity,

See her there,

Kali Nitscha.

She stands screaming in the cremation grounds.

She's dark and terrifying.

She wears a garland of skulls around her neck and holds a cleaver in her right hand.

And she makes a very threatening gesture with her left hand.

Her emotions are riled up and she seems as if she wants to be alone.

She's not.

You are there.

She is you.

Let Kali have the space she needs to process her emotions.

And she too will give you the space you need.

Know that feeling angry,

Frustrated and out of control is part of being human.

Be willing to step back from a difficult situation and ride the wave of the emotion in this safe space that you and Kali have created.

See where the emotion takes you.

Know that when thoroughly analyzed or once out of balance emotions can provide gateways to health and healing.

Hear Kali screams.

Let them remind you that it's necessary to recognize and explore our emotions.

When we attempt to suppress or control our emotions rather than experience and work with them,

They lead to distress and disease.

And know that although many people are afraid of being overwhelmed by their emotions,

They aren't actually as terrifying as we believe.

Emotions can be experienced and released safely without overtaking us.

Allowing ourselves to fully experience our feelings can help us sort out what we really want in life and how we can make our behavior consistent with those desires.

Understanding our emotions can make us more resilient.

And now let go of Kali Nitscha.

Leave her there.

Screaming,

Feeling,

Processing.

Know that you have compassion for her.

She knows that you have compassion for her as she has compassion for you.

Let her fade and bring the awareness to the chittikash,

The mind space in front of the closed eyes,

And let go of this visualization practice.

And listen for the sound of the heartbeat or the feel of the heartbeat.

And in that heart beating,

Hear the heart's desire,

Hear the sankopa,

The same statement that was made in the beginning of the yoga nidra practice.

And again,

Repeat it three times mentally with full awareness and the confidence that it will come true.

Listen for the breath,

Feel the breath.

And feel once again the body and all the points of contact between the body and the floor.

Feel supported across the entire body.

Come back to the breath.

If you feel overwhelmed by emotions,

Use the awareness of the breath to anchor your intention in the body.

Come back to that breath again and extend the breath from the head to the toes and the toes to the head.

And begin to inhale deeply and exhale fully.

Inhaling and exhaling deeply and fully.

And say to yourself mentally,

The practice of yoga nidra for Kali Nidja is now complete.

Keep the eyes closed,

But begin to wiggle the fingers and the toes.

Roll the wrists and ankles one way and then the opposite direction.

And take any kind of intuitive movement the body is asking for.

And when you're ready,

Roll over on the right side in a fetal position.

And in this position of rebirth and renewal,

Say some words of kindness to yourself.

Like good job or I love you.

And if it's difficult to say something kind,

Imagine Kali or a beloved ancestor speaking to you as a small child.

And when you're ready and there's no need to rush or hurry,

Push yourself up to a comfortable seated position with the hands at the heart center.

Om Kali Kaya Namaha.

Om Kali Kaya Namaha.

Om Kali Kaya Namaha.

Om Kali Om Kali Om Kali.

Oh how beautiful it is.

Om Kali Om Kali Om Kali.

The moonlight in me bows down to honors and admires the moonlight in you.
