On slowing down, you'll learn a universal secret. The antidote to being caught up in the mind and wanting to come home to more peace, connection, fulfillment, joy, creativity, and the like. Slowing down. When we slow down, we leave the addictive patterning of the brain and we enter the now, which ironically contains the inner states of being we were trying to chase by speeding up. The answers we seek lie within. First, we must slow down.

So I had heard this for years and I think it's like that for us,

Right?

It's like we hear things for years and then one day it clicks and we're like,

Oh or we just kind of Have something that just gets really uncomfortable and really uncomfortable.

So in our discomfort,

We finally hear it and we're like,

Okay there must be something to this so I Even have been teaching meditations on this it's slowing down So we have an internal speed and an external speed and I think we're so afraid of if we slow down externally Our family isn't going to be taken care of we're not going to be taken care of We won't have as much money as we want we won't Be supported all the things that's why I really want to bring to light it's you can slow down your internal speed and Still have a very full life When we slow down it doesn't mean Lazy,

It doesn't mean non creative falling apart not supported not having enough money and Again,

We hear these things from all these spiritual teachings.

It's like we all you know through the ages.

Everybody's kind of on to it that there's this thing called the present moment and Again,

I heard this for years and until you like have this visceral in your body experience.

It's intellectual and that's fine It's supposed to be intellectual at first and then one day it sinks in and we go.

Oh,

Oh,

That's what that means And you hear from every teacher you hear all the prettin if you're in the present you're not afraid you're okay There's a piece and I was like what the hell like how is that on this earth?

That's real.

That's a thing But so many people kept saying it so I kept looking in that direction and For me it showed up in my work or I and this is why I was like this is perfect to share with you guys While you're in the middle of your workday,

So if any of you can relate to this we are in a society That is taught doo doo doo go go go grind.

It's supposed to be hard Getting a ton of external validation on look look what you've accomplished look how hard you've worked now It's great to want to work.

It's great to want to create But I didn't grow up in the reality.

I grew up from a family of very like Work harder not smarter.

We're all like applauded on how stressed out we are and Overworked we are and how much we can fit into a day And we're in a society like that even if it's you know,

It's beyond our family we're in a like if life was which is supposed to be is what I'm starting to see an inspired action From a quiet mind that we follow and then things align So it's not like life's meant to be like I said,

We're so afraid to slow our slow our internal speed down cuz we're like Oh my god,

We're gonna get lazy and and we're not gonna do anything with our lives.

Absolutely not it's just we start to Slow down enough to get into the flow of life how it's designed to be inspired action Create from that place one thing at a time.

So I do I create I co-create I'm of use but I'm of use without the the Grinding and stress and like that's not how it's meant to be.

That's why there's so many of us that are sick Anxious stressed out depressed our bodies are not meant to withhold that But we look around and we're like everybody's busting their ass and if I don't do that then I'm not gonna be okay and I'm not gonna have enough money and and Then here's what happens you guys we live in a world where we're not And then here's what happens you guys we live in this fear and we live right here in this little merry-go-round And we're so afraid to slow down because our brain tells us you need to do this to be okay But there's this other reality that's right underneath the surface the present moment And this requires bravery and experimentation so for me when I'm with somebody if I'm with a client if I'm with a group,

I'm I'm present.

I'm here That's and I think you know I've been given that gift from spirit to make me slow down to talk to listen to meditate because these are the moments where I Am present at my computer.

No when I don't have to be my emails.

I'm crying it out I'm like,

Let's get this done so that I can get to XYZ and I started to notice I wasn't breathing.

I was tense.

I was gripped.

I was overwhelmed I was irritable because I was all the things now.

This isn't a problem.

This is your health This is wisdom going You aren't designed for this.

We're alerting you that you have left the building.

You're not in the present moment anymore Slow down and so for me it took It took me going.

All right I need to just be brave right now my mind and I'm telling you this because it's gonna slam you hard because that's what minds do But you can expect it my mind It's like I felt it It was like no it can't be this quiet and it can't be this easy and it's like this Because it is it's a neural pathway and it's gonna go this feels weird to just be peaceful and it's what's the point?

And all the things But I put it back here and I just let it talk and I was like,

Oh interesting.

Okay well we've been doing it this way for 36 years and this way just makes me not feel like I can breathe and I'm still not getting the external validation.

I need by slamming at my computer for hours So you just there's this wise part of you that steps away from it a little bit and goes,

Okay It's gonna sound fierce.

It's gonna feel fierce.

It's gonna want to make you go back into the patterns you've been in but that little small voice inside goes slow down Just kid hands off the wheel slow down just a little bit back up Take a breath and The sooner we catch it the easier it is for our mind to settle what most of us do and I'm obviously having to speak for the group because I can't get into your heads right now until we have the Q&A but We we don't catch ourselves early.

We're six hours in and we're like,

I need a drink Whatever it is that you do.

I need to play with my cats.

I need to go outside.

I need a vacation Whatever it is that we do for me It's like excessive amounts of meditation because I'm like I need to get away from myself we think The world is doing it to us But we have so much power over it and we don't see that.

It's like we are we are Dropped down in a world that is living in this ingrained belief system of our world of doo doo Doo go go go and there's nothing at the end of that tunnel So the other option is we can create things we can make things but we can do it from the present We can do it from a more peaceful place We can do it from a joyful creative place So so true story and I'm still a work in progress because this thing runs deep in my brain Because I too come from a world of it and a family of it I Decided to go I woke up This was last week and I woke up and I was like,

Okay,

Let's be brave.

It's a new day We're gonna go slow through everything.

We're gonna just Breathe slow down And something magical happened and I went oh my god I'm getting a glimpse of we live in this reality and we think it's real because it's strong and it's habitual But that's all it is.

It's just a habitual reality.

It isn't who we are what we're destined to have Slowing down pops you here into the present now I know this sounds bizarre,

But this is just what I've learned and what I've come to see When you are present,

Which is the stuff the spiritual guru said and I was like,

How is that true?

It's real You start to access a different Way of being when you are present there is connection There is joy There are new creative ideas that you never even thought of that by living here and I gotta do and you don't see them There are ideas that get you to abundance so fast go here do this,

But because we're here we don't see them So I slowed down and I noticed stuff happening because I believe that it's all energetic so I had friends reach out to me who haven't reached out to me in a while and we were having these really beautiful conversations and I felt this connection Right.

I was having these creative ideas.

I didn't even need to be in a relationship with them I didn't even need to do lists that day Stuff is meant to naturally pop in our head because we're taken care of in the present The next thing that we need from inspired action occurs to us But we have to be brave because we're so used to living here.

We go must have list must go do Um And so we don't get to feel like it was this I haven't So I have an accounting system I use for my work called quickbooks um and I hadn't thought to do it in a while.

It just I like forgot about it and I'm you know My mind was quiet and I was like go do your quickbooks account and it just came it was this natural thing I was like,

Oh,

Yeah,

I gotta update that Was no list.

No,

Nothing just present moment um I felt more peace I felt My my my even my one-on-ones where I am present were so much richer with clients And I was like,

Whoa same reality Same outer stuff two different experiences one in the habitual sped up program of the mind The other slowed down so i'm here to tell you a secret What we want lives Is when we slow down and access this it's it's our it sounds weird you guys but it's our maybe it doesn't to you but I know it can because we're not used to this language,

But It's like we have this true nature part of ourselves And then we have this programmed part and we live in the programmed part and the programmed part says speed up go do And it has a feel to it.

And so in order to step off of that It's like we're on the roller coaster,

But we have to get off of it and Same outside stuff even really difficult things that you might be experiencing but new ways to see it new ideas More connection it's like and I for me personally I was afraid to slow down I was afraid because I thought well Is my life not going to still be my life?

Am I not going to be able to experience the richness of all the emotions and even challenges and all of these things?

Absolutely,

Not you still get the gift of your human wildlife But you but it like takes the edge off when you're in the present So you're not going to have this radical change I remember my I can't remember the way you said it but I was so afraid to show up differently once and my boyfriend said Something along the lines of like the subtleties in you showing up different are gonna no one's gonna notice it Like only you are Like only you are and i've noticed that like if I change if i'm feeling more peace if i'm slowed down No one on the outside makes a big deal of it and I was so afraid to like Show up as this different thing and i'm gonna have to change And it's so subtle and it integrates so lovely and it's who we are the present moment.

Anyway It isn't this crazy.

Oh if I slow down to the present my whole life changes and I change and i'm You know,

I'm gonna have to lose all these people in my life.

It isn't that Scary radical thing my my experience has been like oh it's graceful and it's just A little bit more love a little bit more peace a little bit more connection and the access point to These gifts is when I go I notice by the way that I feel Whoa,

My body's tight.

I can't breathe whatever your things are Slow down and your brain's gonna want to tell you no and you're gonna go i'm not slowing my outside I'm slowing my inside so that my mind can calm so that I can access these things that I want Inside because they don't come from out there they come from the present Um So I want to open this up to you guys for the next 10 minutes or so and see if that Brought up anything to you with you.

Well,

First of all,

I always ask myself questions because it's going to be different for you than it's going to be then it's going to be for me Um,

I would ask myself What is the best way I can remind myself to slow down?

I had a little index card That I had in front of my computer that literally says slow down Um,

And and I know this sounds funky sometimes but I think Uh,

I love the quote the anais and in quote I probably shared it with you guys many times but it's um And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more Uncomfortable than the risk it took to blossom and so when we start to get so uncomfortable by speeding up and doing all of that that becomes so uncomfortable that It's like we don't necessarily need to remind ourselves our spirit our wisdom our witness Just does the reminding for us because it goes ouch ouch and As painful as life is I think that sometimes we have these contrasts of being so sped up and in our heads and In do do do where we're not really getting fulfilled from it Um to make us see like oh,

Okay.

I'm learning this human thing There's nothing there for me and that's my reminder my oh gosh like I'm tense again.

It's like our reminders are our body and our minds.

I'm really anxious.

I'm really tense I actually there's this one teacher.

I really like to his name's joe bailey and he has a book called fear addiction It's like healing from fear addiction and it's like healing from fear addiction and He says in there and I think it's so brilliant.

He says Fear isn't the enemy like worry anxiety fear isn't the enemy.

It's a message to tell you to slow down And so maybe you're like me and a little note card in front of you is helpful or a meditation But life will remind us if we are aware like we grow up thinking I have anxiety.

It's because i'm broken or I have a diagnosis or I have a problem or I Like me my lungs are tight and I have overwhelm.

It's a problem that needs to be fixed But what if it's just the universe your intelligence your heart whatever it is.

We want to call it.

That's like Tapping you on the shoulder constantly going It's your health going you're off kid You're off from center.

And so that's our that's our note card our anxiety our the tension in our lungs the our irritability our disconnection with our loved ones our short fuses our feelings of boredom and and and being completely not satisfied in life like I know this sounds crazy because i've been on this journey too and to my mind I was like what are you kidding me?

But it's it's living right here.

It's like it's like our spirits going you just you're looking in the wrong place You're caught up in your human and i'm gonna let you know and remind you by the worst that you feel you probably need to slow down a bit Because underneath of that same life same people same grievances You can have a softer kinder more loving experience of it when you find that access point to What is occurring right now and not the habitual programs of your mind.

So anyway long answer to I think life reminds us and then also ask yourself and say what's my what's my way of reminding myself to slow down?

Some people will put reminders in their phone,

You know set your phone alarm three days three times a day And be like where am I right now?

Am I in the present or am I sped up just and how do you slow down?

That's a great question.

It's a feeling it's just me kind of like the way i've been taught to it's like foot off the gas Take a breath.

It's it's almost like you're you're taken by something and you're just like you're letting go It's like i've been an analogy I was given a long time ago.

It's like if you're walking a dog who's just pulling you everywhere And then I have to tell this analogy in a very friendly way And then I have to tell this analogy in a very friendly way But we're in an enclosed space when I let go of the leash for this dog so I let go of the leash and You know the dog goes and i'm not being pulled around anymore And that's kind of like what it is when we decide to disengage from our brain.

We do not realize that Because we think our brain is what's keeping us safe.

We don't realize it's just habituation computer program Wonderful thing that's just way overused in our world.

We don't know there's a deeper inner world of guidance of Joy,

Creativity,

Wisdom,

Do your quick books.

We're like,

Oh that comes from my brain to remind me to do the quick books No,

It doesn't Your wisdom tells you moment to moment what you need to do in alignment with your higher self Our brain tells us what we learn to do to fit into the tribe Of those around us and do things exactly like and how school taught us But our soul our true essence gives us our custom tailored.

This is what you need when you need it And it comes when we when we slow down Great questions We have like five more minutes if anyone else has any thoughts or questions Is it hard for you guys to slow down like is this is this you can pop it in the chat too is this resonant of like do you feel like you get sped up often and caught up in that trap of Working hard or like that.

It can't be joyful and maybe you're not like that.

I just find that that's pretty common So hard I feel scattered all the time.

Yeah,

I know you're not alone.

It's really common Which is why it can feel difficult to Be able to be in a relationship with someone else and be able to be in a relationship with someone else And I think that's really important I think that's really important And I think that's really important And I think that's really important Which is why it can feel difficult to um to do it another way because it doesn't look safe Like for me,

I'm like so i'm gonna take this chance And take a chance on my bank account and take a chance on my well-being and slow down when like no one's talking about that That sounds bizarre so This is why I love experimentation and to say to you guys play with it in a really safe way You don't have to like jump full on into this and be crazy and spend all your money and do whatever like You can just go.

Okay What if I slow down while i'm doing my emails or whatever?

Um,

What do I feel underneath that?

Is it softer?

Is it quieter?

Here's the other crazy part.

We're afraid to feel the good stuff we've been so ourselves And our neural pathways are so used to feeling sped up unworthy Scared that's my you know teacher addicted to fear It's not our fault.

It's just how it works and we're so used to that because again plop down in a world where that's praised Like yeah,

You're great if you're there Um,

So it's scary you go.

Oh my god,

I'm not going to be okay i'm going to be different than everyone else if i'm just Oop,

We got someone coming in i'm going to be different than everybody else if i'm like slowing down and i'm just following the flow Of what occurs to me,

But that's how we were all meant to be And so the way I see it is we're the permission givers and it does take us The bravery to go.

Okay.

Let me try this a little bit see how I feel and then I get to show my family I get to show my friends.

I get to show my Co-workers my students.

Oh there's another way and we can be healthier and we can be happier and we We are so uncomfortable in the good feelings,

But we give ourselves a little bit of space to go Could I just let myself ground in this good feeling a little bit longer?

It's going to feel far and your brain's going to be like this is too quiet.

This is weird What's the point in this I don't feel anything but that's what we want.

That's peace.

That's peace and we're not used to it And yes,

I feel relaxed or at peace.

Oh,

That's so funny Then I yeah,

Then I feel like I'm not being productive totally and it's programmed into us because if if we're taught you can feel peace While you're being creative like that's how you're meant to be That it's safe to have the container of peace and you still get ideas do quick bucks right to this client Do this thing like I I get better ideas for more money and more abundance When I am peaceful So we are more productive.

We have what we want when we have that container.

It's just a big misunderstanding And it takes us fiercely going All right This is going to feel strong and slam me and say this isn't working and my patterns are going to want to get back in There and you go Okay Just breathe in it slowing it back down doing that meditation if I need to Letting go of that dog leash It's going to feel fierce and i'm just going to do it anyway We have to view peace and relaxation as something necessary because it is totally totally It should be considered our norm,

But it just isn't so Well,

Exactly I'm recording a Two-week course right now on peace and how it's just normal for all of us and We have that butt backwards too,

But that's a whole Whole other first wednesday conversation Um,

So let's meditate let's spend this last 15 minutes Clearly this is what we're gonna do.

We're gonna slow down Together so that you can feel that it feels safe And uh,

Yeah and enjoy playing with this this week and I invite you like Keep a little journal what happens when you slow down?

Do you get to experience the validation and the love and the connection that you were looking for by?

Speeding up and thinking that you needed to live life that way.

It's just a re re showing ourselves that it's okay That's how it's supposed to be Okay Beautiful so pop some music on if you want get comfortable you can sit up you can lay down Take a couple deep breaths While you guys are getting comfortable i'm going to go shut the window I will go down I will be right back Beautiful,

So just really start to deepen the inhales and the exhales Really expanding the belly and the chest And even if you want this to be your mantra for today knowing that all of us are doing this together We have a little secret slow down Society you can write it on your own But I want you to know that you're going to be able to do this with your hands You can slow down society you can write it on your wrist Or you can let life remind you by these uncomfortable feelings There's nothing wrong with you.

It's the intelligence of the system tapping you on the shoulder They taught you wrong kid.

It's safe to slow down.

I'm just reminding you by the discomfort you're feeling And there's a whole world as Aladdin says a whole new world that's right underneath of that And we just need to slow down to access it and see it and go Oh my goodness this has been here all along and I didn't know it And I can still have a full safe abundant life but from a different state of being This is inner work deepening the breath into the belly into the chest My intention is to slow down to the speed of life to the speed of the present moment To the speed of my spirit to the speed of my heart I know that's going to look differently than the world around me for those who are sped up But they are not happy.

They are not at peace And so why do things that way if that way isn't the way to what I want Joy,

Peace,

Connection,

Love.

It's got to be another way We got to choose to step off that train slowly and gently A little bit at a time safely Deepening the breath into the belly into the chest Slow Feeling the connection between your body and the ground Letting the physical body start to relax and soften and slow down too I like to imagine the earth and it's speeding really fast You can kind of see it out in outer space spinning on its axis And these two big hands which are your wisdom Just move towards the earth and slowly allow it to stop spinning so fast It's like it's held by your hands and you go okay And it stops And it rests and it catches its bearings Knowing that it's your internal speed you are slowing down you can still have a full life Different vantage point present or caught up.

This is where you choose Deepening the breath Soft eyes,

Soft face Soft chest and belly,

Hips,

Back of the knees I know this is going to feel against everything I've learned But I'm going to choose it anyway Because I deserve everything that the present moment contains I'm going to experiment and go slow and see for myself not take anyone's word for it I deepen the breath,

All my muscles relax and I melt down into the ground like butter into bread And I want you to settle a little bit deeper within without needing to do anything right now.

Your only job is to slow down and your mind might go against you and then you come back You let go of the leash My mind is still running.

Slowing down doesn't mean I need to make my mind stop it just means I'm backing away from it.

I don't need to listen to it,

I don't need to trust it I'm just backing away,

I'm letting go of the leash My intention to slow down allows my mind to eventually catch up with me.

It will learn as I take the lead I want you just to see if you can take your foot off the gas Remember you're not doing this to life,

You don't need life to be any different out there.

You're doing it in here.

Your own gas Here you go,

Nice and slow,

Nice and safe,

Testing out the waters Just let yourself float here and be here,

Calm down,

Settle down as you choose to slow your roll,

Slow your speed Knowing that you're going to find wonderful gifts at the end of this tunnel Nice easy breaths as you use your imagination right now If slow was a color,

What color would it be?

Do you?

Just trust the first thing that pops in your head And if slow was a texture or a shape,

What texture or shape would it be?

Maybe it's a tree or a cloud Maybe it's just a colorful shape to you that just feels and holds the energy of slow You had to make slow into an energy.

What would it feel like,

Look like,

Sound like?

Just getting a sense of this I want you to bring this image,

This sense,

This feeling,

This color,

This texture right out in front of you Allow your energy just to start to match with this energy,

This slow,

Internally slow present Not lazy but just not sped up,

Here,

Now,

At peace And as you start to match this energy,

You notice that it merges with your body.

Your body is this color and this texture.

You are the cloud or the tree or the yellow Or the comforter,

Whatever it is that's occurring to you And you breathe this in and you feel the energy of your mind and your body match with this energy,

Calming you even more Deepening the breath,

Letting everything go I'm choosing a new way,

I'm experimenting and I'm seeing for myself I'm going to take off the gas,

Nice and slow I'm going to take off the gas,

Nice and slow I'm going to take off the gas,

Nice and slow Knowing that you can come back to this at any point,

To words,

Letting life remind you when you need to And knowing that this is the safest place to be Don't let others pull you into their storm,

Pull them into your peace Deepening the breath Starting to notice that physical connection between the body and the furniture You're on the furniture and you feel that your presence is right behind your eyes And you're planted inside of your body,

Slowed down to the speed of life,

Grounded in my body behind my eyes on the furniture in the room Deep breath And whenever you feel ready,

Just beginning to stretch or move or wiggle out of the meditation,

Opening your eyes to the morning as you feel ready

This was exactly what I needed. Being a native New Yorker - I'm always feeling a need to be at a speed of 1000%. This was a beautiful reminder of not "missing" anything just because of slowing down. If anything, I can see and do even more 🙏 thank you

Loved this! 💞 There is a phrase in Mandarin "Man Zou" which means walk or go slowly. And can be used to wish someone well when they're leaving. As if to say take care and be mindful on your journey. 💫🐢💚
