Steven Webb teaches meditation to people who think they cannot meditate. The ones with racing minds. The ones who lie awake at 3am running through it all again. The ones who tried an app once, lasted four minutes, decided it was not for them and went back to scrolling. In 1991, aged 18, he dived into a swimming pool in Truro and broke his neck. He has been paralysed from the chest down ever since. That is not the hard part of the story. It took another twenty two years, a bankruptcy and a fairly complete falling apart at forty before he found anything that actually helped. What helped was Zen. Not the serene kind with the robes and the incense. The kind you do at three in the morning when your head will not shut up and there is nobody to ring. He has ADHD and dyslexia, and his own mind has never once gone quiet. So these are not meditations about emptying your head. They are about what to do when you cannot. No complicated breathing. No visualisations to hold on to. Nobody telling you to think positive, or that everything happens for a reason. Most are short. Some for sleep, some for anxiety, some for anger, some for the days when the body is not cooperating. Steven lives in Cornwall, where he is also a councillor and the former Mayor of Truro. He hosts two podcasts, Inner Peace Meditations and Stillness in the Storms. He teaches from the mess, not from the mountaintop.
