Yoga Nidra For Deep Rest | 33 Minutes | The Journey Within
by Kate Rock
A Yoga Nidra meditation for mindful, deep rest created to accompany you on the journey within. The journey which the US writer and mythologist Joseph Campbell calls 'The Hero’s Journey'. A journey that all starts with acceptance. Yoga Nidra reminds us that the real answers lie within and this practice reminds us there is no other, nothing outside you, that can answer your own, unique, individual questions about the meaning of your life. We can, of course, have the valuable support of others, but the journey within, the Hero’s Journey, is one only you can take. Remember nothing and no-one else, can live your one, wild & precious life! In the immortal words of Joseph Campbell: “The seeker is the mystery which the seeker seeks to know.” You are the mystery. You are the light unto yourself. This practice has been created as an offering to reconnect to this light. To the mystery. Reminding us that all we can ever need is within. I hope you enjoy it.

So welcome to this practice of Yoga Nidra.
My name is Kate Rock and I will be guiding you today in your practice.
Whether you're new to Yoga Nidra or if you're a seasoned practitioner,
Know that you are very,
Very welcome today.
So settle in and be comfortable.
Really comfortable.
And take all the time you need to honour meeting your practice today.
Take whatever support you need to find that comfort,
That stillness.
Stillness for the duration of the practice.
Lying on your back on a firm surface,
Align your spine straight from the crown of your head to in between your feet.
Ensure your legs are a little wider than your hips and allow your feet to fall open naturally.
Have your arms by your side a little away from your body and place your palms upwards,
Ready to receive.
Perhaps your fingers are bending ever so slightly.
And take time to move into Shavasana.
Letting go of the distractions in your body and your mind.
Knowing here you can let go to rest.
And close down your eyes now.
You might like to use an eye mask or a pillow.
Anything at all to help ease yourself into the stillness,
The quiet within.
In Yoga Nidra we journey through different states of awareness.
The practice being in fact just that.
A state of awareness.
A state of consciousness.
Today's practice has been created to take the journey within.
The journey in life that only we can take for ourselves.
It's what the American writer and mythologist Joseph Campbell calls the hero's journey.
So prepare to make this journey within.
And I will be guiding you through the practice with my voice,
Bringing you back round at the end.
And there'll be moments of silence during the practice.
And welcome these moments to pause and drop in,
To go deeper on your journey.
And be reminded in Yoga Nidra there's nothing that you need do.
Simply allow the practice to unfold as it should and will today.
Remember the more you let go,
The more you will receive.
This is one of the gifts of the practice of Yoga Nidra.
The paradox if you will.
It's in the doing nothing we get everything.
And Yoga Nidra also reminds us that the real answers lie within.
There is no other,
Nothing outside you that can answer your own unique individual questions.
We can of course have the valuable support of others.
But the journey within is one only you can take.
Remember nothing or no one else can live your one wild and precious life.
This journey,
The hero's journey,
Starts with acceptance.
Complete acceptance at where you are right now in this moment.
In this moment.
Become fully engaged with the here and now.
Where you are of all that is happening externally and internally.
And accept it.
Accept everything.
Let everything simply be.
Become aware of your body lying here.
Your physical body.
Feel the density of your physical form.
Your matter.
Notice how you take up space here.
And be fully present in your space.
Invite your awareness now to be mindful of the support beneath you.
The ground.
The earth.
And know that you are connected here.
Your body with the earth.
Trust that here you are held.
Here it is okay to let go.
To fully let go.
And bring that awareness now into an observation.
Observing yourself.
Your body lying here in this space.
Observe it as if you were another.
Become the observer.
The witness.
Now let go of all of this awareness.
Let go of your sight.
Trusting you will see all you need within.
Let go of your touch.
Trusting you will feel all you need from within.
Let go of your taste.
Be ready to savour all the nourishment of your internal world.
And let go of any scent.
Breathe in deeply and receive all the aromas of the world inside.
And let go of sound.
Softly holding on only to the sound of this voice as it guides you on your journey within.
Breathing into your interior world,
Listen now for your Sankalpa.
Your heartfelt desire.
Your innermost intention.
And remember Sankalpa is not manifestation.
You're not looking to create anything from the external world to make real in your life.
Rather you are waiting quietly.
Listening within to what already is etched deep within your heart.
To that which is wanting to be breathed into.
Wanting to be given life to.
To that which you already are.
Be guided within and meet your Sankalpa.
Then starting with the words I am,
Create a short positive statement in the present tense that encapsulates this desire.
And prepare to repeat it silently to yourself three times in the space that will soon follow.
And if nothing comes today,
Accept and trust that it will come when ready.
Let everything simply be.
Make your Sankalpa.
Make your Sankalpa.
Keeping your Sankalpa or your sense of acceptance in your heart as you enter the rotation of consciousness.
Remaining still,
You will now move your consciousness,
Your full focus and awareness around your body to the different body parts you hear named.
Visualize each body part as you hear it,
Seeing it in your mind's eye as it is and accepting it as it is.
Move with my voice and take your full focus and awareness to your right hand and your right hand thumb.
Visualize your right hand thumb seeing and accepting it just as it is.
Now your first finger.
Second finger.
Third finger and little finger.
Thumb and fingers together.
The palm of your right hand.
The back of your hand.
Your right wrist.
Lower arm.
Elbow.
Upper arm and shoulder.
Your right hip.
Thigh.
Knee and shin.
Ankle.
Solar foot.
Your right big toe.
Second toe.
Third toe.
Fourth toe and little toe.
All your toes together.
The top of your foot.
Your whole right foot.
Now move your attention to your left hand and to your left hand thumb.
Visualize your left hand thumb in your mind's eye.
Your first finger.
Second finger.
Third finger and little finger.
Your thumb and fingers together.
The palm of your left hand.
The back of your hand.
Your left wrist.
Lower arm and elbow.
Upper arm.
Shoulder.
Your left hip.
Thigh.
Knee.
Shin.
Ankle.
Solar foot.
To your left big toe.
Second toe.
Third toe.
Fourth toe and little toe.
All your toes together.
The top of your foot.
Your whole left foot.
Now move your attention to your back body.
Your right heel and your left heel.
Your right calf and left.
The space behind your right knee and your left knee.
The backs of your thighs.
Right and left.
Your right glute and your left glute.
The lower back.
The middle back.
The upper back.
Your entire spine.
Your right shoulder blade and your left shoulder blade.
All along your neck.
Your whole head.
Your forehead.
Right eyebrow.
Left eyebrow.
And the space between your eyebrows.
Right eye and your left eye.
Right temple and left.
Right ear,
Inner and outer.
Left ear,
Inner and outer.
Your right cheek and your left cheek.
Your nose.
The bridge of your nose to the very tip of your nose.
Your right nostril and your left.
Your top lip and your bottom lip.
Both lips together.
Your upper teeth.
Your lower teeth.
Your tongue and your jaw.
All along your throat.
Landing at the little valley in between your collarbones.
Your right collarbone and your left.
The whole of the right side of your chest.
The whole of the left side of your chest.
Your whole chest.
Your belly and your pelvis.
The whole of your right leg and the whole of your left leg.
Both legs together.
The whole of your right arm and the whole of your left arm.
Both arms together.
The whole of the right side of your body.
The whole of the left side of your body.
The whole of your back body and the whole of your front body.
Your whole body.
Your whole body.
Your whole body.
The whole of your body,
Your mind and your consciousness complete now with your awareness and acceptance.
Bring your attention to your breath and feel the breath move in and out of your body.
This effortless cycle of breath.
Feel the temperature of the breath as it enters the body,
Perhaps a little cooler.
And then on your exhale,
Feel the warmth of the breath leave the body.
Breathe into your body now from the front to the back.
Inhaling,
Receive all the air coming into your body from the crown of your head,
Your face,
Your chest,
Your legs,
Your feet.
Receive the breath in to the front of your body.
And then breathe it out through your back body.
Just feel the breath move through your body from the front to the back.
Inhaling,
Receiving.
Exhaling,
Letting it go to the earth.
Inhale,
Receiving.
Exhaling,
Letting go.
Continue in your own time with your own breath and flow.
Now switch it round.
Receive the air on your inhale from the earth.
Exhale,
Let it open up to the world you're lying in.
Inhaling,
Receive.
Exhaling,
Letting it go through your front body.
Inhale,
Receive.
Exhale,
Let it go.
And again,
Continue with your own breath and your own flow.
And now feel your body from within.
Explore the parameters of your physical form from the inside out.
Become aware of all your organs,
Your muscles and your bones,
Your fascia,
Cells and tissues,
Every inch of living,
Breathing matter within your body.
And now go outside your body.
With your mind's eye,
Cross the edges of your physical form and sense the vast space outside your body.
Return once again to your internal world,
Delving deep inside to the infinite space within,
Without any thought or narrative,
Simply being aware and fully accepting of everything.
And then in your mind's eye,
Step outside into the wide expanse surrounding your body.
Remaining at complete rest,
Experience this never-ending space outside your body.
And move between these two states of awareness,
These two sensations of being,
All the while remaining at rest,
Accepting everything as it is in this moment.
Now let the two sensations merge into one.
The two states of awareness becoming one.
Feel all your sensation from within melt into the world outside.
Allow the infinite space within to connect like a stream to a river and a river to the sea,
To the infinite world outside.
The two states of inside and outside merging into the same one,
Unified and infinite source.
Now bring to mind a time when you felt unsure,
Confused perhaps.
And allow the sensation of this experience,
A recollection,
To be brought up and out of the archives of your mind.
Remember this experience.
Again,
No thought or narrative here,
No judgment or opinion.
Just recall a sensation of being unsure in your body as you lie here at complete rest here in this space.
Then remember a time when you felt steadfastly sure,
When you had a sense of knowing,
Of direction,
Of purpose.
And summon this experience from your mind to become vivid,
Real and present in this moment.
And again in the space that follows,
Move between these two states of being,
These two states of experience.
Of being unsure or confused and then of being steadfastly sure of knowing with purpose and direction.
And now let go.
Give way to complete acceptance of both these states of awareness.
Accepting they are just that,
States of awareness,
Of sensation.
Accepting they are just experience.
And in this acceptance,
You are being brought home to the steadfast place inside which is immovable,
Unshakable,
Unbreakable.
The place which is your beginning and your end.
Your sacred space within.
The place which is your beginning and your end.
Your sacred space within.
Abide here and rest.
From this place within,
This home within yourself,
Prepare to deepen your journey now.
Allow yourself to be guided from within,
From your place of truth.
And take your full focus and attention to the space between your eyebrows and breathe here.
Now invite that focus further within your mind to the pineal gland in the center of your brain and breathe into this space.
Awaken this space.
Awaken the guide within.
I will now name some images.
Accept and trust whatever comes up as we continue the journey within.
Lighting up creativity and true freedom from samskaras.
Imagine an anchor deep in the ocean's bed.
The morning dawn bringing light to the ocean.
Deep in the ocean's bed.
The morning dawn bringing light into the dark.
A single flame from a candle.
A triangle of the unity.
The quiet of a morning.
Thunder rumbling in the distance.
An open book.
The never-ending journey of a river to the sea.
A single lantern lighting up a dark passageway.
The north star within.
A bridge from there to here.
A bridge from there to here.
A bridge from there to here.
An old key to open the locked door within.
Embracing your hero's journey.
And your loving ancestors guiding you home.
Gazing at a mirror and seeing your true self.
Gazing at a mirror and seeing your true self.
Gazing at a mirror and seeing your true self.
Look closer now at your reflection.
Your reflection of all that is true.
Your authentic,
Real self.
And see yourself shine.
See the brilliance inside you,
Around you,
Above and beneath you.
A radiance,
A luminosity.
And know that you are part of this brilliance,
This light.
For you are the light unto yourself.
Deepening further still.
Arriving now at the threshold of pure consciousness.
The one,
Boundless consciousness to which we all belong.
From which we are all from.
The consciousness which is beyond experience.
Beyond mind.
Beyond concept.
Trust the process.
Trust the journey.
Trust yourself.
And let go.
In the words of Joseph Campbell,
The seeker is the mystery which the seeker seeks to know.
You are the mystery.
You are the mystery.
Be still and know.
May today there be peace within.
May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others.
May you use the gifts that you have received and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content with yourself,
Just the way you are.
As we return now to Sankalpa,
Knowing its seed was sown at the beginning of this practice,
We may now embed it deeper into our consciousness by again repeating it silently three times in the space that follows.
Or continue to rest in the bliss of pure acceptance and simply being.
Breathe a little deeper into your body now.
And notice how you're feeling as you embark now on the journey back to your world.
In the here and now,
In this space.
And keeping all the benefits of this practice with you,
Just notice the weight of your body on the floor.
Listen to the sounds all around you.
Feel a sensation of air on your skin,
Awakening each and every sense as you return back to this space.
And you might want to give a little movement into your body,
Taking all the time you need as you return to this space.
And continue to light up your life and that of everyone you meet on your hero's journey of this wonderful rollercoaster of a gift called life.
Remember,
You are the light.
Returning fully present and awake in your body,
Mind and spirit.
Feeling completely refreshed and completely renewed.
Return back to your space.
Welcome back to your world.
This practice of Yoga Nidra is now complete.
Thank you so much for taking the time to practice today.
And may the peace which passes all understanding keep your heart and mind in the knowledge and presence of love.
