One of our stable roots that we can rest in is sound.
And that's what we'll be exploring with this practice.
Just taking a couple of breaths.
And as you do that,
You might even notice the sound of your body breathing right now.
Starting with this elemental sound.
And then traveling up to your ears.
Can you sense anything in your ears like a hum or buzzing or static or maybe nothing right now?
And maybe if you are really sensitive to internal sounds,
You could hear your heartbeat or any other subtle noises your body might be making.
Then let's just expand this field of awareness out.
You can kind of imagine it like a bubble,
Just reaching out to the space in which you're in right now.
If you're indoors,
It might reach out all the way to the corners of the room you're in.
And if you're outdoors,
Perhaps maybe about six feet around you.
Letting this quality of attention encompass the sounds in the space that you're in.
And then expanding this field of awareness even further out.
So if you're indoors,
Perhaps listening carefully to sounds outside.
If you're outdoors,
Perhaps really reaching your span broader.
Pay attention to sounds farther away.
And just letting the sounds come and go in their unique way of popping in and out and layering upon each other internal sounds and external intensity and softness.
And then letting go of this idea of reaching and expanding outwards to sounds and just resting here.
Letting any sounds come to you as they may.
Perhaps even following a sound from its beginning to its end.
Knowing that we can always return to sound as our stable roots to hold on to in our practice.
