A short story of Mickey begins with a routine sip of hot Chai. The sensations of warmth and calm transport Mickey into a reverie of recent activity. Along the way, Mickey notices the reality of life surrounding him and joins its flow. Once joined with"Now" Mickey smiles contently and proceeds with the rest of his day.

The other day at Barnes and Noble,

While taking another sip of chai,

The smile on Mickey's face did not feel right.

Something was missing.

Mickey turned a bit inward and checked out the thoughts in his head.

He was still reviewing the great over-the-water golf shot on the last hole to tie for the round.

He had been three holes down in match play with three holes to go.

On 16,

His opponent had to lay up and Mickey thought,

It's make it or break it,

And went for long ball over the water to the green.

He made that and also won the last two holes.

Fun for him to reminisce,

But still a distraction from the even happier body-mind sensations of now.

As Mickey let go of the image of the ball going over the water,

He smiled and felt as though he was slipping into a tub of pleasantly hot water.

All the small muscles on his face relaxed at one time,

Replaced by an even happier tone.

A scratchy voice from the adjacent table that had been an unwelcome distraction was still there,

So Mickey turned to it with all of his attention.

It now became the present tip of the iceberg of his existence.

Listening intently to the sound and not any interpretation of the words,

He discovered another soul just like his own,

Just trying to be happy.

Mickey finished his extra hot chai latte and went upstairs to his favorite book section,

Smiling continually as he rode the escalator patiently to the top.

Enough with just having a good time,

He thought,

Remembering that the search for a new book had been planned for today's activity.

This made me smile on so many levels. I used to work in a bookstore with a cafe, spending most of my time in the cafe as a barista. Chai has long been a favorite of mine, and listening to this brought flooding back memories very similar to those described here, as I would sit at the cafe tables during my breaks, sipping my chai, reminding myself I needed to get upstairs to the section I wanted so I could find a new book to purchase at the end of my shift. With the exception of the golf memory (I am a terrible golf player šŸ˜†), every other bit of this could have been drawn from my lived experiences. Lovely time of my life, and a time when, like Mickey in the story, I really learned how to consciously apply my attention and re-engage in the present moment. Thank you so much for sharing this. Bookmarked for reference and repeat listens. I see the light in you. šŸ¤²ā¤ļøšŸ¤²
