When your computer slows down or it freezes or it just fails to follow your command,
How often is the solution just to switch it off?
And switch it back on again.
That is the principle of the reboot,
Because our minds are the same.
And what we do is we take a few moments,
Around three minutes,
To disconnect.
So then when we reconnect again we reset with new energy and vitality to face the rest of the day.
Now this is useful at any time,
But particularly when we want to let go of a stressful encounter,
To be the best version of ourselves,
Or to declare an end to the working day,
Especially when working from home.
So wherever you are now,
Sit down and make yourself comfortable.
And make a connection between your fingers.
So either the thumb with the index finger or the thumb with the middle finger or with both.
When you found what's comfortable.
Then allow your hands to relax in your lap.
And now allow your eyes to close or your gaze to lower.
And we're just going to take the first minute to look at what thoughts are allowed in your mind right now.
But instead of judging them,
Instead of entering in conversation with them or trying to change them,
Imagine that you're standing with a clipboard and you're just observing as if you're looking into your own mind and you're just witnessing and noting what's there.
What are the loudest voices saying?
The most dominant thoughts.
And then on the next exhale,
Moving your focus to the breath in the belly.
And once again,
You're not trying to change this.
You're not judging this.
You're just observing.
This breath in.
And this breath out.
Feeling your focus on the sensation of expansion on the inhale.
And deflating on the exhale.
Just this breath.
And this breath.
Feeling the rise.
And the full.
And then on the next inhale,
Imagining the whole body taking this breath.
Picturing the breath coming in through the top of your head and going all the way through the body on the inhale,
Down to the toes.
And then shooting back up again on the exhale,
Giving energy and vitality to all that it touches,
Feeling those sensations both on the surface and under the surface.
Breathing in new beginnings and letting go of anything that's not serving you right now.
And feeling your whole body expanding.
Into the space around you on that inhale.
And letting go on the exhale.
Coming back to your body and coming back to this moment.
As the late Thich Nhat Hanh said,
Known as the father of mindfulness.
Life is only found and available in the present moment.
Now gently open your eyes.
