Welcome,
And I hope that each one of you will find peace within yourself.
Our world today is often a troubling place.
It doesn't matter where you live or how much money you make.
Whether you're a CEO,
Or a teacher,
Or a doctor,
Or a janitor,
There are concerning things going on all around us.
In the United States,
There's the very real danger of mass shootings.
There have been 261 so far in 2021.
There are wars going on all around the world,
And then of course there's the ongoing threat of COVID-19.
Battles over masks and vaccines,
Over going to school or staying home,
Over distancing or not distancing.
Whether we should open restaurants and bars or keep them closed.
There are millions of people who don't know if they can keep their home because of finances impacted by the global pandemic.
In short,
The world right now is bombarding all of us with varied levels of tension and anxiety.
The symptoms of anxiety,
Of course,
Are varied and can differ from person to person.
Some of the mental symptoms include worrying,
Agitation,
Restlessness,
Difficulty concentrating,
Difficulty sleeping,
And more.
And the physical symptoms can include shortness of breath,
Headache,
Nausea,
Tremors,
Excessive sweating and fatigue.
For the most part,
We can't change all the things going on all around us.
Well,
We can change how we react to it.
We can get in touch with our breath and every time we do,
Our life is a little better,
A little calmer,
And a little more tranquil.
And I can't emphasize enough how important it is to try and get in touch with your breath multiple times a day.
You'll be amazed by the difference it will make in your life.
Just two or three minutes here and there throughout your day will make a world of difference.
It will help relieve that anxiety.
Close your eyes now and let's settle in.
Let yourself start to relax.
It doesn't matter if you're sitting,
Lying down,
Or standing.
Take a deep breath and then gently exhale.
Continue to breathe naturally and don't force anything.
Just breathing in and breathing out.
Realize any tension in your face.
Relax your neck.
And as you breathe,
Feel yourself getting heavier with each breath.
Feel yourself sinking into the chair or whatever surface you're on.
Relax your arms and hands and start feeling so heavy.
Relax any tightness in your chest and belly.
Let your legs and feet relax.
Don't clench your hands but breathe.
Just breathe.
I've said before that your breath is a river of calm,
A stream of tranquility and peacefulness.
It doesn't matter what's going on.
It only matters what you do in this moment.
You control your breath and by doing that,
You can control your anxiety.
Breathing in and breathing out.
One breath at a time.
Listen to the flow of your breath as it moves gently in and gently out.
Your body is like a weight,
So heavy.
Just continue to breathe slowly in and slowly out.
Our minds are so powerful and we can tap into that power simply by getting in touch with our breath.
I've said before,
It doesn't require an investment in money or equipment.
It doesn't require an investment in the huge numbers of books.
It just requires an investment in time and focus.
Time and practice that feels normal,
So you feel confident and comfortable.
I've talked about how our life is like a river and now you,
Each one of you,
Are a part of my river,
Just as I'm a part of yours.
I want you,
Each of you,
To succeed.
I decided to come back and teach because I think I have perspectives that are valuable.
My hope for each one of you is that you grow and develop in your practice.
The things I'm talking about are a part of my life and you can do it too.
Getting in touch with your breath is something you can perfect if you just decide to do it.
By doing that one thing,
You can conquer your anxiety and so much more.
I have found peace within myself.
So can you.
Take advantage of all the pauses in your day,
All those times that are otherwise wasted.
When you're riding on the bus,
When you're riding in the elevator,
When you're sitting in the car waiting for a friend,
When you're waiting in the doctor's office or the dentist's office,
When you're waiting on hold for tech support,
Take advantage of all those little moments throughout your day.
Things that we all have,
That very few of us take advantage of,
Grasp a hold of those little moments.
And if just for two minutes,
Focus on your breath,
Get in touch with it,
Allow yourself to relax and calm yourself,
Get yourself centered and you will be amazed by the difference in your life.
Now as we come to a close,
I'd like you to open your eyes and come back into the room you're in.
Notice how relaxed you feel.
Take one deep breath and let it out through your mouth,
Letting out a sigh.
You're ready to resume your day,
Feeling a greater sense of peace and calm.
You can do this.
I know you can.
I hope this has been a beneficial and calming session.
Until next time.
