Fear Of Loss

My fear of having children is rooted in my fear of loss, or more specifically, it is rooted in my fear of my child losing me. I wonder how many women (and men) feel the same way? Articulating my fear in words has helped me isolate the fear and become more mindful of it.

I finally realized why I'm afraid of having you. I'm afraid of loving you so much, And then losing you. Life has taught me that things can go wrong, And for no reason. But there's one thing I fear even more. For you to love me, And then lose me. For you to feel so loved, Because I will love you more than you can fathom. Then to feel so alone, Wondering where I've gone, And what happened. Life has taught me that things can go wrong, And for no reason. And I love you too much, My unborn one.
