Hello,
Friend.
This is Martha Golden.
Thank you for joining me in a mindfulness practice today.
Find a comfortable position,
Seated or lying down.
Let your hands rest softly.
Gently close your eyes.
Take a slow breath in through your nose and let it go through your mouth.
Again,
Breathe in and release.
This is simply a moment to rest,
To give your nervous system a break from the weight it's been carrying.
Notice what's here.
Maybe there's anxiety,
A tightening in your chest or stomach,
Tension in your shoulders.
Maybe your mind racing,
Jumping from one worry to the next.
Maybe you're ruminating,
Turning the same thought over and over,
Looking for an answer that won't seem to come.
Maybe trying to cope ahead for the future and overturn every possibility.
It's all okay.
You don't have to push any of it away.
Take a breath in and out.
Sometimes,
Anxiety feels vague,
A nameless unease,
A dread of the unknown,
Something you can't quite name or pin down,
And that vagueness can feel unsettling because the mind wants clarity.
It wants certainty.
Anxiety has a function.
It's your mind and body trying to protect you,
Scanning ahead,
Looking out for danger,
Trying to cope ahead and make preparation for what might come.
It can feel uncomfortable,
And it's not your enemy.
It's a part of you that cares deeply about your safety.
Breathe in and breathe out.
Anxiety often over-corrects.
It prepares you for every worst-case scenario.
It forgets that you are resilient,
That you have handled hard things before,
That there will be unexpected things in life,
And you will meet them as they come,
One at a time.
You don't have to solve the unknown right now.
You only have to be here,
Breathing.
With your next exhale,
Imagine releasing some of that tension,
Just allowing it,
Not forcing it.
You are allowed to feel calm.
You are allowed to put down the weight of trying to control what you cannot know or see.
Clarity doesn't come from thinking harder.
It comes from getting quiet.
Let your shoulders drop.
Let your jaw unclench.
Let your belly soften.
You are not at the mercy of your anxiety.
You can feel it,
Acknowledge it,
And choose your next step.
You can be both anxious and empowered,
Both uncertain and capable.
Take one more deep breath in and breathe out slowly.
Take your time returning.
You can always come back to your breath anytime.
It is always here.
Peace be with you.
