Hello and welcome.

Find a relaxed and comfortable position.

Take a deep breath.

In,

All the way in.

Again,

In.

Remember,

You're in the perfect place.

Relax your body,

Relax your brain,

Relax your heart.

Just relax.

Allow yourself to be open to what is about to flow through you.

I want you to imagine that the following people are standing in front of you.

Your parents,

Guardians,

Kids,

Grandkids,

Close friends,

Teachers,

Spouses,

Religious leaders,

Anyone who has had an influence on you.

I want you to imagine them facing you and looking at you with compassion and love,

Regardless of your experience with them.

Now,

Hear them saying to you,

Beginning with your name,

We knowingly and unknowingly influenced you with our own opinions and ways of being.

These ways came from our own past conditioning and we realize that none of our opinions were necessarily true or right for you.

We apologize for any hurt this may have caused you.

In whatever ways we showed it or didn't show it,

We love you and want what's best for you.

It is now your turn to take your world.

We want you to live your life your way.

You are free from having to please us now.

You're free and encouraged to be you and to live from your heart and to do what you love and to be your true,

Authentic self.

Place your hand on your heart.

Take a deep breath.

Allow what they've just shared to sink in.

I want you to be mindful of the thoughts of,

If only they had said that,

If only they actually did that.

And to realize you don't have to wait for them.

If you wait for other people to give you closure,

Then you place your life in their actions.

Closure can be gifted to you by you.

Forgiveness is not about saying that what someone did was okay.

It's not.

It's just releasing all hope for a better past.

It's allowing ourselves not to hold on to what has been.

To see that we're not in a prison.

There's a door right there.

We can walk out.

Accept this apology as it is.

I want you to grab your pen and your journal and to perform the following exercise.

It's just like a really wonderful,

Beautiful clearing exercise.

So the first part is to just let yourself be free.

Let yourself be free from the thoughts of,

If only they had said that,

If only they had said that.

It's just like a really wonderful,

Beautiful clearing exercise.

So the first part is you're going to write out,

I now release the following from my life and create a list.

What do you want to let go of?

What do you want to be done with?

Just keep your pen writing.

What are you fucking tired of?

Let your heart open up.

Clear,

Vent.

Who are you done being?

What are you done with?

What are you done pretending?

What are you done not saying?

What are you done tolerating?

When you complete that,

With your full permission,

Complete the following.

What I want to bring more of into my life is,

What do you want more of?

What feelings,

Thoughts,

Activities,

Things,

The types of people,

What I want to bring more of into my life is,

What I love and I want more of is,

Just allow yourself to dream,

Allow yourself to have.

We're so afraid of letting ourselves dream,

But gosh,

It's such an activity that children do.

It's about embracing your inner child.

Just allowing yourselves to declare what you want.

So short, yet so powerful — thank you! Mark Groves has a gift for getting to the essence. This meditation on forgiveness and letting go was deeply moving and offers a meaningful tool to initiate consecutive changes.

Insightful, thank you. Initially I was a little put off by the visualization and apology but the explanation following resonated and helped me understand my feelings about it. Loved the journaling prompts. Feeling lighter.
