Absorbing Sun Qi Through The Gate Of Life (Ming Men)

This meditation uses two Qigong techniques: focused attention on an acupuncture point and absorbing energy (Qi) from nature. The acupoint is Ming Men (Gate of Life). If you are not familiar with it, please see first my track that cultivates awareness there ("Sensing Acupoints" series). Through the Gate of Life, we absorb Qi from the sun. Filling the body with the sun's warmth and golden light renews vitality, supports the kidneys, relaxes the body, and brings hope and optimism.

Welcome to this Qigong meditation practice of absorbing the energy of the Sun into our bodies.

If you can practice this meditation outdoors on a sunny day that is fantastic.

If that is not a possibility for you,

You can practice it indoors.

If you can sit by a window and feel the Sun through the window that's great,

But if not even that's a possibility just imagine yourself illuminated by the Sun as you practice this meditation.

This is an advanced Qigong meditation practice which uses focus on a specific acupuncture point in this case the point called Gate of Life or Ming Men in Chinese.

If you are not familiar with where this acupuncture point is located and not accustomed to these kinds of practices my recommendation is to begin with one of my other tracks called Sensing Acupoints.

I have one specifically for the Gate of Life where I share information about the point,

Its specific location and you can begin to develop your sensory awareness of this point.

If you are ready to continue just to re-familiarize yourself with the Gate of Life it is located in the middle of the lumbar spine between the second and the third lumbar vertebrae in the back.

You can take your fingers there right directly behind the belly button on the back and begin to use tactile learning to reactivate this point and then let your hand relax.

You can practice this meditation standing or seated.

Of course lying down is an option if you are very tired.

Assuming your chosen position now,

Invite the body to relax into gravity and downward pull of gravity.

Invite yourself to be held by the earth.

Sense or visualize the Sun on your skin and let the breath flow naturally throughout the whole meditation practice.

Bringing awareness to where you might feel the breath in the body,

Allowing the breath to move freely and naturally through your relaxed body.

Bring your awareness to the Gate of Life acupoint.

Maintain awareness here at this point throughout the practice.

Revisiting the sensation of the Sun real or visualized on your skin.

Allow the energy of the Sun,

Its warmth,

Its glow to pool at the Gate of Life.

Breathing in and out of the body,

Maintaining focus at the Gate of Life.

Let the Sun's energy pool there at this point and then imagine opening this point so that the sunlight can flow into your body.

You might sense your breath,

So visualize the sunlight pooling at the Gate of Life as you exhale and then inhaling the sunlight in through the Gate of Life into your whole body.

And then once more,

Exhaling,

Pooling the sunlight at the Gate of Life and inhaling the gathered Qi,

Sun's energy,

Through the Gate of Life.

Into your body or you might visualize the sunlight streaming into your body in a continuous stream through the Gate of Life as you breathe naturally in and out.

Let your body choose visualization that best supports your experience right now.

Begin to feel your whole body filled with golden warm sunlight warming all your inner organs,

Particularly the kidneys.

Kidneys that will store some of this Qi that we are absorbing from nature in the reserves there.

The sunlight filling your whole torso and beginning to flow down into your legs all the way to each toe.

And more sunlight streaming in through the Gate of Life,

Beginning to flow down your arms,

Each tip of the fingers.

And even more sunlight streaming in through the Gate of Life into your body,

Beginning to fill your neck and your whole head until the whole body is filled with warm golden light of the Sun.

You are welcome to continue to remain here within the space of the meditation absorbing Sun through the Gate of Life point for as long as you wish.

When you are ready to close this practice,

Begin by noticing how you feel.

What are the sensations in your body?

What is the quality of your energy?

How do your mind and heart feel?

Bringing your awareness to your heart,

Your energetic heart in the center of your chest.

You can place your palms in this area of your body if you wish.

Acting with a sense of gratitude for the gift of Qi that's been given by the Sun to you.

As you're ready,

Beginning to open your eyes gently,

Taking in the space around you.
