Welcome to your practice.
This is a Qigong practice where we use sound to cleanse and bring health to some of our organs in our body.
Qigong and traditional Chinese medicine recognizes five main yin organs of the body.
The kidneys,
The liver,
The heart,
The spleen,
And the lungs.
These are the organs that we will be working with in this meditation.
You can think of this as offering a sound massage to the organs.
We're going to be sending vibrations to each of the organs in turn,
And this will help release any stuck energies from the organs so that the organs can function more optimally.
This practice works a lot with emotions as well,
Which in Qigong and traditional Chinese medicine are associated with these five organs.
So you may have emotions come up throughout and it's entirely all right.
Just as things come up,
Be it energies or emotions or thoughts or any other sensations,
Allow them to arise,
Experience them,
And let them go.
If the practice becomes too overwhelming,
Of course,
Please stop.
You can come back another day or you can be in touch via a private message with me and I can offer some guidance.
This practice can be done from any physical position.
My preferred way to practice it is seated,
But you can equally be standing or you can even be lying down.
So choosing a posture that is appropriate for you now.
I am choosing a seated posture.
You can sit in a chair or on the floor on a meditation cushion,
Whatever lets your body relax.
Particularly the area of the abdomen can relax and release.
We're going to start by warming up our hands.
So rubbing the palms together,
We're going to be placing the hands on the organs.
So we're just generating a little bit of warmth between our hands,
A bit of energy.
And when your hands are nice and warm,
Placing them on your kidneys to start.
So placing them in the back of the body,
Just below the rib cage,
On either side of the spine.
And beginning by connecting with the kidneys through touch.
You might imagine that your hands are gently touching the kidneys themselves,
Offering care and your loving presence to this organ.
Just like you might sit with a friend.
Letting your breath flow just in a relaxed,
Natural way.
Listening through the palms of your hands to the kidneys.
We will send the sound eee to the kidneys.
So we're going to take a breath in.
And as you exhale,
You're going to sound eee until the end,
The comfortable end of your exhalation.
And then at your own pace,
Inhale again and repeat sounding eee until a comfortable end of your exhalation.
And then a third time.
So we'll repeat each sound three times.
But at your own pace,
Which may be slower or faster than mine.
And when you complete,
Just continuing to rest your hands on the kidneys.
So breathing in now.
Continuing to rest your palms on the kidneys.
And listening once more to what is present in the organ.
Noticing any sensations or emotions that may be coming and going.
Offering your loving presence to the kidneys once more.
And when you're ready,
Taking the palms of your hands to your liver.
That's located on the right side of your abdomen,
Just beneath the rib cage as well.
Place one hand on the side,
Under the right ribs,
And one hand towards the front on the right side of the abdomen.
And connecting with the liver now through your touch.
Listening to the sensations of the liver through the palms of your hands.
Just breathing in a relaxed natural way.
And the sound for the liver is EEEE.
And you can sound this in different ways.
You can just do EEEE.
Or you can make EEEE into ERRR.
Or sometimes the liver is the organ with of anger and frustration.
Those are the emotions that are associated with the liver organ.
And these are emotions that are often suppressed in our culture.
So if you're feeling like something is really stuck in the liver,
You can even growl to the liver with a GRRRRR.
Like the growling of a tiger.
So I'm going to go with EEEE for the purposes of this recording.
But you can choose EEEE,
ERRR,
Or GRRRR as is appropriate for you.
Three rounds again.
So breathing in.
EEEE.
Your three rounds just continuing to listen to the liver with the palms of your hands.
Noticing if anything feels different.
Offering your loving presence to the liver.
And when you're ready,
Bring your palms to your heart,
Which is located in the center of your chest.
The organ itself is a little bit,
A couple centimeters off to the left of the center.
So placing the palms of your hands over the heart.
Listening to this organ.
Sitting quietly and breathing with the heart.
What does that feel like for you?
The sound for the heart is AHHHH.
And just noting that as we make these sounds,
It's not about sounding good or any kind of singing or anything.
It's simply making the sound that vibrates in that particular organ.
So you can experiment with the pitch as well and feel through the palms of your hands the vibrations increase or decrease in the organ.
Varying the way your mouth is open or the pitch in order to bring the vibrations of that sound to the organ that we're working with.
It's not to sound pretty or in any way perform for someone else.
So three rounds of AHHHH for the heart.
AHHHHH.
Continuing to sit with your palms at your heart.
Offering your full presence.
To this organ.
Letting any emotions or even images or other sensations arise.
Witnessing and letting them go.
When you're ready,
Bringing the palms to your spleen.
This is a smaller organ.
It's located on the left side of your belly,
Just under the ribs as well.
In fact,
If you find the lowest ribs on the left hand side,
Placing your hands there,
That's where the spleen is located.
And as I said before,
Allow the vibrations where you feel them to really guide you more precisely to the organ itself.
So starting by breathing with the spleen.
Offering your loving presence to it through the touch of your hands.
Let your shoulders relax as you do this.
The whole body relaxing.
And the sound for the spleen is OHHH.
OHHH.
So sounding three times.
OHHH to the spleen now.
OHHH to this organ.
When you're ready,
Bringing the palms to the lungs.
I like to place my palms towards the top of my chest,
Just under the collarbones on either side of the chest.
But you can place your hands anywhere on the lungs.
So anywhere where you have ribs,
You can place your hands even in the back.
So choosing a position that is comfortable for your hands and your shoulders.
Being present to the lungs now.
What is it that your lungs wish to communicate to you today?
The sound for the lungs is OHHH.
So we're going to sound three times.
OHHH to the lungs now.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
Continuing to be present to the lungs.
Noticing the sensations that you feel through the palms of your hands.
Emotions or thoughts arising and dissolving.
And to close this practice,
We make one more sound to harmonize all five of the organs.
So for this one,
I like to place one arm across my belly with the forearm across my belly and one arm across my chest with the forearm across my chest,
Like giving myself a hug so I can listen with my palms and my forearms to all the organs together.
And the sound is MMM.
So we're going to do three rounds of MMM to bring all five of these organs into harmonious relationship.
Breathing in and release your arms down to your lap if you're seated or just the sides of your body if you're standing or lying down.
And taking a few quiet moments just to breathe,
Open to the sensations,
The energy,
Emotions or thoughts.
So all these sensations that create this present moment.
Knowing that you offered yourself this care to bring health and harmony to the organs that support you all day and all night long every day.
What is it like to give back?
When you feel complete,
Opening the eyes,
Taking a look around your space,
Grounding yourself in your physical environment,
Looking at the walls,
The ceiling,
The floor.
And when you're ready,
Moving back into your day.
Thank you very much for your practice.
