Hi,
And welcome to this 10 minute guided meditation.
Today I would like to meditate around the topic of simple living.
I think many around us live life in autopilot.
It descenters their life around what others say or think,
Rather than what truly makes them happy and full.
We need to look within first,
We need to explore and navigate within ourselves.
It all starts within you.
With that in mind,
Let's meditate.
Find a comfortable position with a straight back yet alert.
Finding this place where you have a straight back but not rigid.
Rest your hands loosely on your lap or knees.
Close your eyes or keep them open.
To transition ourselves into this state of meditation,
Let's take a few deep breaths.
As we breathe in,
We stretch our back.
As we exhale,
We settle into our position.
Relaxing your jaw,
Your neck,
Your shoulders.
This is where most of us hold stress.
The stress that we collect throughout the day.
As we settle into this simple living mindset,
Let's find our home base.
A place we can come back to if our mind wanders.
This can be your breath,
The feeling of your arm,
Laying on your lap or leg,
Sensation in your leg,
Anything that feels comforting that can help us with our equanimity.
We breathe in and we breathe out.
Thinking about the rising,
Falling of the breath.
As our mind may wonder,
We gently shift our rotation back to our home base.
We breathe in and we breathe out.
Relaxing your jaw,
Your neck,
Your shoulders.
Relaxing your neck,
Your shoulders.
Not judging or feeling frustrated that our mind wondered.
It's okay.
This happens.
The art of bringing yourself back is a muscle.
Muscles can spasm,
So think of the mind wandering as a spasm.
The spasm might want your attention now.
We gently stretch the spasm until it's relieved.
I will let you enjoy the practice for a few minutes.
Thank you.
The essence of simple living is to identify the essentials in your life.
Which in a way is what we do in meditation.
We focus on our home base.
That is the essential.
As many of those who practice simple living may say,
The best things in life are not things.
Two more minutes.
And now we let go of our home base and we just cruise.
We serve for the rest of the practice until you hear the bell.
Thank you.
Thank you for meditating with me today.
See you next time.
