This Tree Meditation was recorded at an In-Person Meditation Class. This meditation guides you to ground yourself in Presence, connect with the power of your Breath, and experience Open Awareness, before inviting you to merge with the creation or memory of your special tree. It can help to soften the illusion of separation, giving you the chance to bask in Oneness. In this guide, you have an opportunity to connect not only with the healing properties of Nature but to also create a safe space for Inner Wisdom and New Perspectives to surface. It incorporates aspects of Following the Breath, Five Senses, and Visualisation meditation practices.

So whilst we're still focusing on our breath,

We're just going to move the breath so that we're breathing into our feet.

Just having a sense of breathing into your feet and as we're doing this I'll ask you just to try and create a picture of a tree in the distance.

This could be using your imagination or maybe it's a tree that's your favourite tree and your tree can change at any time.

There's no right or wrong just see what comes up and if you can't get a picture or a visualisation of your tree you can just get a sense of it.

Just allowing the details of your tree to develop as you're breathing into your feet.

Beginning now to walk slowly towards your tree,

Your mind's eye,

Your breath in tandem with your footsteps,

Continuing to breathe,

Having a sense of connecting to the earth as you walk.

When you reach your tree you can choose to either place your hands on the trunk of the tree as you stand in front of it or you can choose to sit down beside it leaning your back up against the trunk.

Just feeling a connection to this tree,

Continuing to breathe and whilst you're sitting here with your tree you might like to ask it if it has anything to say to you.

You can see this as the voice of your tree,

If it doesn't that's okay.

If anything comes up just trust that that's right for you.

You can see this as the voice of the tree with a message for you.

Allowing yourself to really get a sense of your environment,

So maybe this imagined environment,

Memory or a combination of both.

Allowing yourself to sense what you're feeling.

I'll ask you now to see what happens if I ask you to merge with the tree.

So however this looks for you,

No longer you and the tree but you as the tree.

So now as we breathe,

We're breathing into our roots,

Deep into our roots.

Just exploring how wide,

How far,

How deep your roots are.

Allowing your breath to travel deep into the earth,

Feeling a sense of being grounded,

Stabilising.

Just staying with this for a little while longer.

Allowing everything into your experience,

So you may have sounds in the room that we're in,

In the space that we're in,

In the present moment and also in the present moment in your visualisation,

Your memory or your imagination,

This creation of your own.

What sounds are there as well?

Notice how this can all be here at once.

Just breathing into your roots and allowing it all in.

With your next cycle of breath,

I just want you to continue breathing but this time taking your in-breath down to the roots and your out-breath up through the tips of the branches of your tree.

Noticing maybe the movement of your branches as you do this.

Noticing how we can be two things at once,

That we can be stable and rooted yet the leaves and the branches can be free-flowing with movement.

So we have both stillness and movement.

We get a sense of balance.

So just continuing in this way,

Breathing into your roots and out through the tips of your branches.

I'll ask you now just to centre yourself in your heart space,

At the heart of the tree.

Breathing into this space,

Feeling the life force energy as you breathe into the heart of your tree.

In your own time,

I'll ask you now to gently step out of your tree,

Feeling your feet on the floor once more,

Taking your time and slowly beginning to walk away from your tree,

One step at a time.

Again now breathing into your feet,

Getting a sense of the ground,

Maybe feeling grass,

Maybe you're wearing shoes,

Could be bare feet,

Whatever it is for you is fine.

Just really sensing that connection to the floor,

The earth.

And when you reach the same distance that you were when we first started,

I'd like you to turn back around to look at your tree from a distance.

Taking in the details of it once more,

Seeing if anything has changed.

And if you like,

You can place your hand on your heart and you can repeat the words thank you as a mantra for a moment or two now.

So just thanking the tree,

Thanking yourself.

Not forgetting to breathe.

Just getting a sense of where we are in this space that we're in now,

So maybe feeling your bum against the seat that you're sitting on,

Have the feeling of your body come to you now,

Feeling a sense of gravity,

Noticing maybe what you can taste,

What you can smell,

Slowly bringing some movement to your body now,

Maybe wiggling your fingers and your toes,

Swaying your hips from side to side,

Moving however you like,

And in your own time whenever you're ready,

Just begin to open your eyes now.
