Hello,
My name is Leigh Anderson,
Welcome.
This is a guided meditation on discipline,
Pride and inner peace.
It's called the pug's stance,
Grace,
Grit and a wagging tail.
Welcome to this gentle and powerful meditation,
A space to rediscover your strength,
Stillness and presence through the eyes of an unlikely hero,
A sweet,
Mostly white pug with big brown ears and a heart full of courage.
While lions may rule the savannah,
With fierce might,
Our little pug friend rules its world with something quieter but just as noble,
Loyalty,
Patience,
Discernment and a kind of soft grace only found in those who know who they are.
The pug doesn't chase after every distraction,
It chooses its moments with thoughtfulness and pride.
Let this meditation guide you into the same sense of calm,
Awareness,
Discipline and inner joy.
So please find a quiet place to settle,
You can sit cross-legged or on a chair or lie down,
Whatever feels comfortable and sustainable.
And gently close your eyes as you soften your gaze.
Let your hands rest naturally by your side or on your belly.
As you take a deep breath in through your nose.
And slowly exhale out through your mouth,
Like a gentle sigh of relief.
Again,
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
As your attention rests on your breath,
Let this be your anchor for meditation.
So thoughts may arise and that's okay,
Let them pass by like squirrels running through a park.
You don't have to chase them.
Feeling your body begin to relax.
Breathe in relaxation.
Breathe out tension.
Breathe in love.
And breathe out apprehension.
Now imagine a cosy porch bathed in warm morning sunlight.
On it sits a calm little pug,
White and round,
Big brown ears and soulful eyes.
Its body is still,
Content and alert.
This is the pug's stance.
It isn't barking at the mail carrier.
It isn't frantically digging in the garden.
Simply watches with pride,
With patience and with grace.
This pug knows who it is.
It isn't concerned with being the biggest or the loudest.
It is enough.
Take a moment to breathe in the energy of that still,
Steady little being.
Let the warmth of the sun on your face,
The breeze gently ruffling your hair,
The same way it does the pug's soft fur.
You are sitting in the pug's stance now.
Rooted,
Present,
Noble in your simplicity.
Let the pug be your guide today.
Imagine you are now in the pug's body.
You feel the ground beneath your paws.
The breeze on your ears and the rhythm of your breath flowing in and out.
Inhale discipline.
Exhale distraction.
Inhale pride.
Exhale doubt.
Inhale grace.
Exhale chaos.
In the pug's stance,
You don't need to prove anything.
You don't need to fix,
Chase or control.
You simply observe.
You are aware of your surroundings.
Your thoughts.
Your emotions.
But you don't react to every bark in the distance.
You choose what deserves your energy.
So breathe into that choice.
That power.
You are not your thoughts.
Just as the pug is not every leaf or squirrel that passes by.
Feel the strength that comes with stillness.
And feel the clarity that comes with discernment.
If your mind drifts,
That's okay.
Bring it back gently to the breath.
To the porch.
To your pug self.
Now imagine your pug self is surrounded by loved ones.
Perhaps other pugs.
Perhaps people you care for.
This is your pride.
Your community.
You rest not just for you,
But for them.
Your discipline,
Your grace,
Your calm,
It ripples outward.
Breathe in love for others.
Breathe out selfishness.
Breathe in compassion.
Breathe out stress.
With each breath,
Let yourself return to the present.
The porch.
The sunshine.
The breeze.
The breath.
You are not scattered.
You are centered.
You are not focused.
You are not frantic.
You are grounded.
You are not broken.
You are enough.
Let this awareness settle into your body now.
Feel it in your heart.
In your breath.
In the way your muscles have softened.
Take a final deep breath in and exhale fully with a gentle sigh.
And begin to bring small movements into your body.
Wriggle the fingers.
Wriggle the toes.
Roll,
Move your shoulders or gently stretch if you feel the urge.
And when you're ready,
You can blink open your eyes.
Remember this.
You can return to the pug stance anytime you need.
With patience,
Pride and grace.
You can meet the world with calm,
Clear presence.
Thank you for being here.
Thank you for being you.
