Today's meditation is all about fire.
So,
Go and get yourself very comfortable and we'll begin.
So,
You might like to light a candle for this meditation because we are going to be inspired by flames and fire.
So,
If you have a candle,
You could have that in front of you and you could keep your eyes open and look at the candle at relevant points.
But otherwise,
I am going to be describing everything that you need,
So don't worry if you don't have one.
So,
Let's get ourselves very comfortable.
Let's pop our feet flat down onto the floor,
Drawing up through the spine,
Checking in with shoulders and neck,
Of course.
Bringing the eyes just below the horizon line and we'll all close our eyes just to start off with or soften your gaze down on a fixed point.
Now,
We are going to be using our hands in a moment.
So,
For now,
Just bring them down onto the lap or the knees.
We will be using the hands in our practice in just a few moments.
So,
Just feeling the weight of the body here on the chair or the ground or the bed.
Allow your feet to just press gently into the floor.
Feel wherever you are sitting supporting you and feel your hands connecting to your own body.
Just taking a moment to find some stillness,
Some peace,
Some quiet.
And whatever is going on around you,
Whether you can hear sounds or distractions,
Just try and let them fade.
And just focus on yourself.
And start to lengthen your breath just a little.
And let's take three deep breaths together,
Breathing in through the nose and out through your mouth.
And two more.
And then close your mouth and start to breathe in and out through your nose.
And with ease and comfort,
Just begin to find a nice rhythm and flow of your breath.
So,
Our meditation today is inspired by flames and fire.
So,
I'd like you to either look at your candle if you have one or picture a flame or fire in your imagination.
Or perhaps you just have the sense that you're next to a flame or fire,
Safely of course.
Maybe you can feel the heat from the flames and the fire.
I want us to recreate that heat now.
So,
Bringing your hands up and together,
Just slowly start to move the hands up and down,
Creating a little bit of friction between the palms and the fingertips.
And we start really slowly,
Travelling all the way down the hand with the fingers,
One side and then the other.
I want you to notice what you feel in your fingertips and what you feel on your hand.
When a fire is first lit,
It can take a while for the flames to build.
Perhaps you can feel a little bit of heat in your hands.
You're going to start to get a little bit quicker with the movement.
Notice how this changes,
How you feel in the hands,
Your arms,
Both in your muscles but also the sensations through the fingers and palms,
Any heat that's created.
We're going to build up now to get a little bit faster,
To maybe even feeling some heat in the palms and hands.
When you do feel some heat,
Just going to take the hands and cup them over the eyes like we do at the end of our meditations normally.
And feel that warmth on our face.
Try and bring to mind a picture of a fire or flames.
Maybe you can even hear the fire crackling.
Bring the hands together again,
We'll start slowly and build up,
Getting faster when you want to.
Feel the heat rising,
Getting quicker,
Getting warmer.
And then again,
Take the hands onto the eyes.
And I wonder if you can see the colours of the flames,
Of the flames,
Of the fire.
The oranges,
The goldens,
The oranges.
And one more time.
Getting faster when you're ready,
Feel the heat.
Make this the fastest one if you can,
Feel the difference between the fingers and the palms.
And then when you're ready,
Hover your hands over your eyes.
And I wonder if you can even imagine smelling the fire or the flames.
Feeling the warmth on your face.
Just bring your hands down with your eyes closed just for a moment.
And think what fire means to you.
Any memories attached,
Any thoughts or feelings.
Allow everything.
And take some deep breaths when you're ready.
Breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Two more.
And then breathing normally for our final time,
We bring the hands up,
Give them a little shake,
Just as we normally do.
And hover the hands over your eyes.
And blink your eyes open inside your hands when you're ready.
And bring your hands down.
And I'm here.
And I hope you enjoyed our fireside meditation today.
Have a lovely rest of your day and I will see you again very soon.
Bye for now.
