This short, light Cat Nap is designed to combat drowsiness and improve cognitive function. Taking short naps during the day or whilst on night-shift work, has been shown to sharpen mental focus, improve memory and performance, stabilise mood and reduce fatigue. This nap-inducer uses your breath, mindfulness and progressive relaxation to help you enter a light, restorative state of rest where your mind can switch off for a few minutes and your body re-store its energies. You will be guided gently out of your nap towards the end. The soothing background music is ‘A Pure Embrace’ by Christopher Lloyd Clarke.

This short,

Light cat nap is designed to combat drowsiness and improve your cognitive function.

When you are ready,

Allow your eyes to comfortably close.

As you do so,

Allow the weight of your head to soften into the support beneath it.

Breathe out down the full length of your body,

Allowing your shoulders,

Arms and hands to soften and release what they've been holding.

Let each out-breath release a little more,

Allowing the whole of your body to soften and release everything it's been holding.

Let it flow out of you and away,

As your breath flows in its own way,

Its own time.

Allow your mind to soften and come down to rest in the air and flow of your breath,

Letting your eyes soften and rest too.

Let all tension from your eyes flow out and away.

As you let that happen,

Allow the whole of you to soften and let go into resting now.

On the breath,

Rise and fall as it deepens and slows,

Taking you into sweet recuperative rest.

Let your mind drift effortlessly into velvet sleep,

Velvet resting now.

Rest well,

Rest soundly.

In your own time,

You can gently begin to wake up from your nap,

Becoming aware of the sensation as air enters and leaves your nostrils,

And the movements your body makes as you breathe.

Notice the weight of your body supported by the surface beneath it.

Notice your breathing in from the space around you and out into it.

Notice you're here in this moment,

Have a stretch if you want to,

And when you are ready,

You can slowly open your eyes.

Give yourself time to wake up fully and start the rest of your day refreshed,

Brighter,

Clearer and renewed.
