Slowing Down To Discover In Times Of Uncertainty
by Li Meuser
This 22 minute rest is designed to support us in times of transition and change, when we are experiencing grief and/or uncertainty- as we are leaving behind the old, and moving into the emerging new. Lisa helps us orient so as to help our nervous systems and brains be in regulation as we explore and discover together.

So if you're not comfortable already,
Go ahead and find a spot that your body feels supported in knowing that we'll be here for a little bit.
And of course you can readjust yourself at any time if you need to.
You can move,
You can readjust.
You don't need to be stoic here.
And then just kind of noticing where your body has situated.
Even for a moment even notice with the eyes open where you're situated in place.
Just acknowledging the room that you're in,
Looking around the room to see things that maybe are helpful in anchoring you in the present.
Letting your attention,
Your nervous system include those things in your space that are real supportive for you.
And then just from a practical place just noticing the stability of the room and the solidity of the walls and the ceiling and the floor.
We want the brain,
The cognitive brain to see that,
To connect to that reality for the benefit of our nervous system.
And we can see what we're sitting upon with our eyes open and then when we're ready we can feel into the solidity that we're sitting upon.
And we can feel the support in that practical and very real way that is here in our context whether it's behind you or under you.
And just letting your body find that,
Letting your body find that for itself.
What's solid?
What is unconditional?
What is unwaveringly here?
What can your butt depend on so to speak for the next bit of time or your back or your hands or anything,
Your feet?
And let your attention and your nervous system attune to what is going to be dependable for the next bit of time.
So we're bringing cognitive conscious somatic attention to that dependability.
Acknowledging that's not all that's here but that is something that is here.
So we want to include that.
It's important to include what is here that's dependable particularly when we're going through periods of transition and change.
If we accidentally or innocently skip this step we can feel like we are flying or floating or without ground at all.
And in some ways that may be true and in another way we always have ground because we are always within this field of gravity.
So in this moment we invite ourselves to slow down to include that,
That solidity that's here in some way,
Some practical way for our bodies to be resting upon,
Resting with.
And as you're able to keep attention with that for a moment to develop a momentary relationship here with that dependability.
And maybe you can notice that while the body is in movement and thoughts are in movement and breath is in movement there is that which is unmovable,
Intangibility.
Again maybe the floor,
Maybe something that your hands are upon or your back,
Your feet.
It could also be the dependability of breath herself including that if that feels right for you.
And really inviting the tender parts of you,
Maybe the young parts,
Maybe the current day parts but the tender parts of you that don't know a lot about certainty or dependability or solidity,
The tender parts that are unsure what's going to come next in your life or don't understand what is dissolving.
Let's include those tender parts of ourselves,
The tender emotions,
The tender sensations.
Maybe that comes with or can be named as uncomfortable or discomfort or other words might come to mind.
Inviting maybe unsettledness,
Inviting that and acknowledging that those resonances.
Yes,
You are here too.
Uncertainty.
Come sit with me.
Come sit with us.
Yes,
Grief,
You are here too.
Come sit with us.
Yes,
Whatever is emerging but we don't yet know what it is,
Yes.
You too can sit here with the solid ground underneath or behind.
You too can rest here in this chair,
On this couch or wherever you are placed.
You too are welcome here.
To the you that is finding their way,
Who is in discovery,
Who has been letting go of old,
Letting go of what's been familiar because you just know that it's time to do that but that doesn't mean that it's easy to do that.
And honoring,
Honoring that while including the constancy of breath and the constancy of the field of gravity,
Of solidity that is here as well.
And to acknowledge,
Yeah,
I don't know what's coming next.
I don't know what it will look like as I'm letting go of X.
I don't know what it will be like to be me without X.
We're in the seedling stage right now of seeds being planted and yeah,
We've got to slow down to honor that and be tender with ourselves,
With our seeds,
Our inner seeds that perhaps have been sown but haven't even formed roots yet maybe.
Our stems.
And to let the space underneath us and behind us and the breath herself be the nurturing for our inner seedlings.
As if the breath could say,
Yeah,
I'm here with you.
I'm not going anywhere.
As if the field of gravity in the chair represented by the chair or ground of earth or floor could say,
Yeah,
I'm here.
Not going anywhere.
Any fear,
Grief,
Anger,
Anything,
Uncertainty,
Unsettledness,
Yes.
You are welcome here too.
I'm just going to be quiet so that we can honor this emergence as we receive the continuity of coexisting support.
Any other questions?
If we drift off in compassion for that and just gently come back to something actual,
Or simple in this moment.
It is safe to be in this moment and let your body find that safety through chair,
Through floor,
Through breath and whatever way your system can connect to that in a solid way.
You are safe to be here in this moment,
There is no danger around you.
And it is not dangerous to feel discomfort in this moment.
It is not dangerous to be unsettled perhaps or uncertain or have grief or so forth in this moment.
And finding for yourself or discovering for yourself how that is true.
It may not be true in certain ways.
In many ways,
And it may be true in some very simple useful ways to include in this moment.
Be quiet again for us to sit with that invitation.
NOW RACE FOR profoundly If complexity carries you away,
Just acknowledge that it's so easy to happen.
And as resonates,
Redirect your attention to re-include or re-establish connection with something that is also simple for your attention to rest with and include.
In this moment,
If there's any resonance that is that feels nurturing for you or maybe a sentence that is dropping in that feels true for you,
Like an affirmation or a little mantra that you might carry with you from this time that you might take with you into your moments moving forward.
Maybe it's,
I mean it could be anything,
Something like,
It is safe to slow down,
To feel my sit bones for example.
Or I am on a path of evolution.
You know,
It literally can be anything.
It's words that feel nurturing to you,
That feel resonant to you,
That carry with maybe some of what you've tapped in just now that feel supportive and maybe even empowering in some way even though there might also be challenge.
Let yourself just dream into that question,
See what emerges.
You might even just try it out,
Repeat it into yourself,
See what it feels like to hear.
Let yourself play with this,
Have a little fun just playing with the resonance of what might support you as you move into this next season of life.
And I just invite you to stay with that phrase or word,
Just be with it with your breath,
Very simply your sitting breathing body.
If it feels right for you to give gratitude or acknowledgement for having slowed down to be here,
It is not always easy to do that.
So thinking yourself for being here,
Thinking whatever it is that is here supporting you in this moment whether it's breath or object or something beyond that.
Challenging or thinking any wisdom that may have dropped in or is visiting you in this moment.
And even thanking yourself for being a part of this shared experience as we are co-creating together.
And just really taking your time when it feels right to slowly let the eyes open as you stay connected to your sitting breathing body and writing anything down that you want to that's dropped in,
Giving yourself some time and space to do so.
