Stepping out of the conflict dance.
If it is safe to do so and if you are comfortable doing so.
Gently allow your eyes to close.
And bring your attention to your breath.
Let the breath be natural.
Let the body soften.
Let the shoulders release.
Let the jaw relax.
And let the hands rest.
Feel the support beneath you.
And allow yourself to simply arrive here.
And now imagine yourself standing in a quiet,
Open space.
In front of you.
There is a circle on the ground.
This circle represents a familiar conflict pattern,
A familiar dance.
Perhaps the dance of pursuing and withdrawing.
Perhaps defending and attacking.
Perhaps shutting down and escalating,
Perhaps pleasing and resenting.
You do not have to step into it yet.
Just observe it from the outside.
Notice the pattern.
Notice how it usually begins.
Adon.
A silence.
Of Criticism.
A feeling of pressure,
A sense of being ignored,
A moment of disappointment.
Notice how it usually begins.
Now gently,
Imagine yourself inside that familiar moment.
The pattern begins.
Notice your body.
What happens first?
Does your chest tighten?
Does your stomach drop?
Does your face become hot?
Does your throat close?
Does your mind speed up or do the words disappear?
Now notice your familiar urge.
To pursue?
To withdraw?
To defend?
Shut down?
Explain?
Fix?
Escape?
To win?
Notice you're familiar.
And now.
Instead of judging this urge.
Silently Say.
This is Protection.
Once again.
This is protection.
Ask gently.
What is this part of me trying to protect?
What is this part of me trying to protect?
Connection,
Safety,
Worth,
Space,
Respect,
Not being abandoned,
Not being overwhelmed.
Let the answer come simply.
What is this part of me trying to protect?
Now take one slope there.
And imagine yourself taking one step back.
Out of the Automatic Dance.
Not leaving the relationship.
Not denying the issue,
Just stepping out of the battle.
From here.
You can see more clearly.
You might say.
I notice I am wanting to push for the resolution.
Or I notice I am wanting to disappear.
Or they notice I am becoming defensive.
All I notice,
I am shutting down.
Let this awareness create space.
And now ask.
Do I actually need?
What do I actually need?
Perhaps the Oshodons.
Perhaps space,
Perhaps time.
Perhaps to be heard.
Or to know that your worth is not under attack.
Or perhaps simply grounding.
What do I actually need?
And now imagine communicating the need.
More directly.
Not perfectly.
Just more consciously.
Perhaps you say I am feeling anxious and I need the assurance that we will come back to this.
Although I need a break,
I need to rest and I do want to return to this conversation.
Or I'm feeling defensive.
And I want to slow down.
I want to hear you.
Or that I am overwhelmed.
I need a moment to find my words.
And notice what changes when the need is named instead of acted out.
And now imagine the other person's pattern.
Perhaps they withdraw,
Or pursue,
Or defend,
Or shut down.
And remind yourself.
The Apatow.
May also be protection.
You do not have to agree with everything they do.
You do not have to excuse hurtful behavior.
But you can see the cycle more clearly.
You can see the cycle more clearly.
And now gently say,
I can notice the pattern.
I can name the need.
I can choose a different step.
And now imagine yourself in the coming week.
A conflict begins.
You feel the familiar pull.
But this time.
Even if for only one bread.
You notice.
You balls.
You ask,
What pattern am I entering?
What am I trying to protect?
What do I need to communicate?
Maybe the conversation still feels difficult.
Maybe it's not perfect.
But something has changed.
You are no longer only inside the dance,
You are beginning to see it.
And what you can see You can begin to change.
And now slowly bring awareness back to your body.
Back to your bread.
Back to the support beneath you.
Move your fingers,
Move your toes.
And when you are ready.
If your eyes were closed,
Gently open your eyes.
