Hi,

This is Kelly,

And today I have a meditation for you if you are grieving.

Maybe you've suffered loss of a family member.

Maybe you've suffered a loss of a job,

A marriage,

A way of life.

Loss is loss.

It doesn't matter how big or small it is.

We all grieve after a loss.

Seven years ago,

In 2015,

I lost my husband,

And I was grieving,

And really still am grieving.

But a friend said something to me in the early,

Early days after suffering this loss that have completely changed my way of thinking and have really led me on my meditation path.

She said,

Kelly,

Just keep your head where your feet are.

And at that moment,

Suffering the most pain of my entire life,

Honestly,

Where my feet were was in a pretty great place.

I was in a home that I loved,

Surrounded by people that loved me and I loved,

And I felt very safe.

If I went past to the past,

It was so incredibly painful.

And if I went into the future,

It was so scary.

But being in the present moment,

Keeping my head where my feet were gave me a tremendous amount of peace.

And I want to help you find that peace today.

So find a comfortable position.

You can be lying down,

Seated,

Anything that speaks to you.

And when you're ready,

Just gently close your eyes.

Start just by connecting to our breath.

Just start to notice your inhale through your nostrils.

Start to notice how that feels.

Do you feel it go back to the back of your throat?

Do you feel your lungs expand?

Your belly?

And then notice the changes on your exhales.

Just be right here where your feet are,

Connecting to your breath.

Notice the subtle changes when you exhale.

Notice how maybe your shoulders drop.

Maybe your belly drops back into your spine.

Maybe if you're exhaling through your nose,

Maybe the temperature's changed.

Just be aware of it.

Don't try to control it.

Just be aware of it.

Just be here right now in this moment.

Notice where you are.

If you're seated,

Notice your sit bones on whatever surface you're on.

Notice how that's holding you up.

If you're lying on your back,

Just notice the connection to your entire back,

The back of your head,

All the way down,

The small of your back,

Back of your legs.

Notice how that's touching whatever surface you're on.

Just be in this moment and be aware.

We're not trying to control anything,

We're just noticing.

If your mind starts to wander,

Just keep your head right where your feet are.

Maybe it even helps to visualize your feet.

If you're sitting cross-legged,

Where are your feet in space?

If you're sitting,

Are your feet touching the floor?

If you're lying down,

Are just the backs of your heels touching the surface?

Where are your feet right now?

Just take your attention right there.

That's all you need to do right now.

Just connect to your feet right now.

Your feet aren't in the past and your feet are not in the future.

Your feet are just right here in the present moment.

That's all you need to do is just be right here in the present moment.

Really start to take your awareness back to your breath.

Take a long,

Deep inhale as deep as you can.

Then when you can't even,

Take another sip of air,

Hold it for a second.

Then exhale everything out.

Do that one more time.

The deepest breath you can do,

Hold it at the top.

Then exhale everything out.

Then slowly start to bring your awareness back.

Start to move your arms and your legs.

When it feels right,

You can open your eyes.

I am so sorry that you are grieving,

But just remember to keep your head where your feet are.

And sometimes you'll do this multiple times during the day.

It's okay.

Just take a moment to keep your head where your feet are.

Thank you so much for meditating with me.

I hope this gave you some peace.

I truly needed this today. My husband committed suicide 6 years ago today.
