Finally,
It's that quiet time of night when we get to relax and let the rest of the world go by.
Favor this time for yourself,
This time of rest.
Arrange your pillows just as you like them and tuck yourself in.
I'll give you a few moments to prepare before we begin our meditation.
The golden pinks and oranges of the sunset have faded and the paintbrush of time now uses broad strokes to turn the sky to midnight blue.
Fairies gather twinkling stars onto invisible strings and disperse them merrily into the dark sky.
The moon stands on tiptoe and makes his grand entrance.
All is well.
Let the night embrace you.
Let the bed embrace you.
And let your body sink into the mattress and prepare for sleep.
Let the mercy of this moment sink deep into your shoulders.
Relax.
Feel the mercy swirl around your shoulder joints.
Taking away your burdens.
Releasing all of the tension there.
Preparing for rest.
Let your muscles descend into the mattress as if they are melting into sand.
Let's take some deep relaxing breaths.
Breathe in.
Pause.
Breathe out.
Pause.
Breathe in.
Pause.
Pause.
Watch your breath as it goes in your nose,
Down your throat,
And into your lungs.
Then watch as it returns to the universe.
Breathe in fresh night air.
And allow it to put you at ease.
Behind the darkness of your eyelids,
You ease into a relaxed state,
Aware only of beginning to mindfully relax your body.
Focus on your forehead and let the muscles there become loose and smooth.
Your head is heavy and relaxed.
You are ready to drift towards sleep.
Your jaw parts slightly as it lets go.
Take a deep breath into your neck.
And on the exhale,
Let all of those muscles and tendons melt into the mattress.
Think of any tension in your neck as tiny crystals and let them go.
Let them fall to the floor.
All of the muscles,
Tendons,
And nerves in your head and neck melt away,
Leaving you with just bones.
Let the tranquility of this moment sink deep into your shoulders.
Let them unwind.
Let them be heavy.
Let all of the muscles in your shoulders melt away.
Make sure your forehead is smooth,
Heavy.
You feel drowsy and content as you go deeper and deeper.
Breathe into your lower back,
A deep breath.
Hold it and let the breath swirl around those muscles as they unwind,
Inflate,
And then go limp on the exhale.
All of those muscles and tendons loosen and release.
You sink further into your mattress as if melting into sand as you become deeply relaxed,
Warm,
Peaceful.
Relax your arms.
Gently wiggle your fingers and toes.
Then let your fingers go soft,
Fists unclenched,
Everything released.
Your legs and feet loosen,
Letting the muscles and tendons melt.
You are just bones.
You are at ease,
Utterly relaxed,
Feeling more bliss and relief at each level.
Going deeper,
Deeper.
There is only stillness and profound peace.
Your body has melted away and your conscious mind begins to float.
You inhale and your mind fills the room.
Fills the house.
Fills the universe.
You are all things and nothing.
You are free.
You are a breeze.
You drift up as light as a feather into the night sky.
A large butterfly passes by with pearls of stardust shimmering in its wings.
The stardust becomes a raft on the river of dreams.
And with sleep overcoming you,
You lie on the raft.
At ease,
Melted away,
Completely relaxed.
Drifting closer to the heavens,
Closer to things seen and unseen.
A flicker of something infinite.
You are floating on water,
Weightless.
The gentle current rocking you.
And you float closer to sleep,
To complete relaxation.
You drift and drift and drift.
Rocking gently on the water.
Floating.
Letting any crystals of tension left in your body drop away.
Meandering down the softest of currents.
The darkness enfolds you.
Safely carrying you towards stillness.
The sound of my voice becomes distant.
And the sensations of sleep are drawing closer now.
Let the music play up and down your spine and continue to melt.
Rest.
Sleep.
Sleep.
