I've been thinking about the term higher self lately.
It's used a lot in the
Spiritual self-growth community and I have a very different understanding of
This term than when I first heard it and I want to share it.
When I first heard
About the idea of a higher self,
The way I envisioned it was my best self,
My most
Empowered,
My most successful,
You know,
My most like fearless and conquering
Self.
I imagined that it would be,
You know,
This like go-getter,
My best self,
Highest self.
And now what I see is that my highest self is so humbled.
My highest
Self is full of compassion and forgiveness and grace.
It's full of love
And acceptance.
Unconditional love and acceptance.
That is my higher self.
That
Is my higher self.
So to me it feels a little bit different and not to say that
My higher self isn't also empowered and inspired and successful and in alignment
And fulfilled,
You know,
And just like doing the things unstoppable.
That can
Also be my higher self but I realize now that I was forgetting this really
Crucial part of what makes up a highest self.
These really humbling parts feel so
Important to remember and I don't know if we can get to these parts,
If we can
Crack these parts open without some sort of hardship.
That's what it feels
Like to me.
It feels like my ability to feel less judgment and more compassion,
I
Mean like zero judgment towards myself or others,
Compassion and forgiveness and
Gratitude and I don't know if I could have gotten here without really humbling
Experiences,
Right?
So that's what I'm sitting with and as hard as this journey
Has been sometimes,
As painful as it has been,
As hard as it is to to go through
Really humbling experiences,
It seems to just really crack us open so that we can
Feel more,
So that we can be better,
More patient,
More forgiving,
More kind.
We
Need these experiences to open us up to these deeper parts of ourselves,
To these
Raw parts.
That's what I am feeling to be true right now.
So I just wanted to
Honor that truth and put that out there.
Maybe other people can relate to this,
Maybe it's an eye-opener for somebody,
Maybe it resonates,
But it was a really
Nice moment of realization for me today.
All the parts of my highest self,
Recognizing these parts that I hadn't realized would be so important.
I've also
Been reflecting on the idea of self-love and how hard that is for so many of us
And why is it so hard?
But I've been working on it a lot,
A lot,
And peeling
Back a lot of layers around this one and what I feel now is I feel so thankful to
Myself.
I can look at all the work I've been doing and I can say,
Wow,
You're
Doing a lot of work.
I can look at myself with all of my imperfections and my
Flaws and everything I am and everything I'm not and how hard I've
Been trying and working,
Wanting to be just a better human,
Wanting to not be
Dragged down by,
I don't even know what to call it,
Not being dragged down by the
Things that drag me down,
By the things that would keep me in just kind of a
Lower state of being.
I've been working so hard on being really humble and being
Really kind and non-judgment and acceptance and forgiveness.
I've been
Working so hard on these things because these are the things that I have
Struggled to give myself and I know I'm not alone in that.
I know I'm not alone
In that.
I know that's why so many of us struggle with this idea of loving
Ourselves and what's so beautiful is to see the payoff,
Is to see that now I can
Look at myself and say,
She's trying so hard.
We're so proud of her.
She's doing
So good.
I can look at her as if she's my child and I can thank her and be proud
Of her and be in awe of her.
Like,
Wow,
This girl really wants to do good.
She is
Determined.
She is bound and determined.
She is,
Nothing is gonna stop her from
Growing herself and I can look at that and really value it.
Like,
I can see what
Is great about me and that has been so hard to do and I know it's so hard for
Other people to do and it's a practice but no matter where you are in that
Practice,
See what you can do.
Try it on.
See how it feels.
I mean,
We have to get
Some sort of baseline,
Right?
You have to understand and have awareness of where
You're at in terms of really loving yourself before you can make steps
Forward.
So seeing how that feels,
Could you look at yourself and say,
Wow,
You're
Doing okay.
You're trying.
You're showing up.
And to feel gratitude for that.
To
Feel,
To feel good that you're doing that.
It's the other thing I've been thinking about.
Self-love.
Self-love.
So much
Deeper than,
You know,
Like self-care or those things.
Like,
This is the deep
Stuff.
This is peeling back the layers,
The thoughts,
The programs,
The beliefs
About ourselves that we have been carrying since our childhood.
It's
Uncovering those things,
Looking at them,
And then you just keep working on letting
It go.
Letting it go.
Letting it go.
Letting it go.
And you start seeing
Yourself more clearly.
You start seeing yourself through the eyes of someone who
Loves you.
Which is you.
You love you.
You're here for you.
So that's been a
Really beautiful gift and experience in my life lately.
Mmm,
So humbling.
It feels so nice.
It's this,
Like,
Coming home to self.
You know,
Think of,
Like,
The way,
If you do beat yourself up,
If you are really hard on
Yourself,
Then being in your own mind,
Being in your own body,
Does not feel
Good.
It does not feel safe or comfortable.
And you certainly wouldn't
Describe it as feeling at home within you,
Because home is supposed to feel
Really safe and comforting and loving and warm and kind and familiar.
And so if
You don't love yourself,
If you're not creating that environment,
Then you're
Not gonna want to be home in yourself.
But there's a different way we can create
That,
So that you can have this feeling of coming home to you.
That you're
Creating this really cozy,
Inviting,
Warm sanctuary within you.
And that's so
Powerful.
And when you have that,
Then you don't feel so frazzled.
You don't
Feel so at the mercy of the outside world,
Because you know within you is
This sanctuary of safety and peace.
And that you have your own back,
And that you
Love you,
And that you've done the work to build it for yourself.
And how good does that feel?
Feels pretty good.
Feels pretty good.
Okay,
I think that's it for now.
