Hi,
My name is Karestan and today we'll do one of my favorite practices,
Coherent breathing while listening to the ocean.
Coherent breathing is a slow,
Steady breathing practice that helps regulate the nervous system.
You'll breathe in and out through the nose at an even pace,
Usually about four to six counts in and four to six counts out.
The breath is smooth and consistent without strain.
At this rate,
Which ends up being about five to six breaths per minute,
The heart and nervous system begin working more efficiently together.
This can increase heart rate variability,
Which is linked to improved stress resilience and emotional regulation.
You are always in control of your pace.
If at any point you need to adjust the rhythm,
That's completely welcome.
Let the breath feel steady and comfortable.
I'll guide you with a count of five in and five out,
But please feel free to move at a pace that feels right for your body.
You can practice sitting upright or lying down,
Whatever feels more comfortable.
You may choose to close your eyes or keep a soft gaze downward.
If it feels supportive,
You might place one hand on your heart and one on your belly.
Let's begin with a deep breath together.
Inhale fully through the nose all the way to the top and let it go with a gentle sigh.
Again,
Inhale to the top and release.
One last time,
Inhale fully to the top and let it go.
Now we'll begin the coherent breathing.
I'll guide several rounds and then I'll step back so you can rest into the sound of the ocean and the rhythm of your own breath.
If you lose count at any time,
Simply begin again.
I'll let you know when it's time to come back.
So let's begin.
Breathe in,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Exhale,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Inhale,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Exhale,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Inhale,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Exhale,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Now keep going.
You're doing great.
I'll let you know when it's time to come back to your normal breath.
As we begin to release this breathing rhythm,
Allow your breath to return to its natural pace.
There's nothing you need to change or control now.
Take a moment to notice any shifts,
Perhaps a little more steadiness,
A little more space,
Or simply the awareness of being here.
Whatever you're experiencing is valid.
Let your body integrate at its own speed.
You can carry the sense of steady,
Coherent breathing with you,
Knowing you can return to it whenever you need support.
Have a great day.
