This is a great practice to do when you're struggling with someone - they're annoying you - could be someone at work, or a friend, or someone in your family. Best not to do it for the most annoying person in your life, because that can be too hard. Just someone who is bugging you. Results can be eye-opening! This is called a person just like me that's a challenge for me.

So what I'd like you to do is think of a person in your life that maybe rubs you the wrong way,

That's a little bit annoying.

You don't want to choose the most annoying person because it's pretty difficult to do this practice with a really super annoying person.

But pick somebody who just kind of gets under your skin,

Just kind of annoying.

And get a good image of them in your mind.

What do they look like?

What are they wearing?

You might want to do this with your eyes closed.

Sometimes it's easier to visualize someone with your eyes closed than with your eyes open.

Take a couple of breaths just to settle in.

And now let's consider a few things about this person.

This person is a human being just like me.

This person has a body and a mind just like me.

This person has feelings,

Emotions and thoughts just like me.

This person has at some point been sad,

Disappointed,

Angry,

Hurt and confused just like me.

This person wishes to be free from pain and unhappiness just like me.

This person wishes to be safe,

Healthy and loved just like me.

This person wishes to be happy just like me.

So now let's allow some wishes for this person to arise.

I wish for this person to have the strength,

Resources and support to help them through the difficult times in life.

I wish for this person to be free from pain and suffering.

I wish for this person to be strong and balanced.

I wish for this person to be happy because this person is a fellow human being just like me.

Take a few more deep breaths and just notice what you're feeling.

And whenever you're ready you can gently open your eyes.

And remember this can be a pretty challenging practice for people.

So if it was challenging for you,

You can always do a self compassion,

Take a self compassion moment,

Maybe put your hand over your heart or say some kind words to yourself.

Maybe words like,

Oh that was hard.

I'm glad you hung in there but that was difficult.

And if you didn't hang in there or you didn't feel,

You know,

You felt some resistance to this practice,

It's totally okay.

It's a challenging practice and you can take your time feeling comfortable with it.
