Track 2.
Understanding Stress in Your Body Welcome back.
In this practice,
We're going to explore something you probably experience every day,
But might not fully understand.
Stress.
And here's the first thing I want you to know.
Stress is not weakness.
It's not a character flaw.
It's not evidence that you're failing at life.
Stress is biology.
It's your body trying to protect you.
Let me explain.
Your nervous system has an ancient alarm system built into it.
When your brain perceives a threat,
Whether it's a real danger or just a difficult email,
It activates what we call the stress response.
You've probably heard of fight,
Flight,
Or freeze.
These are survival modes.
When this system turns on,
Your heart races,
Your muscles tense,
Your breath becomes shallow.
Blood rushes away from your digestive system and into your arms and legs,
Preparing you to run or fight.
Your mind narrows its focus,
Scanning for danger.
This response kept your ancestors alive.
It helped them escape predators and survive emergencies.
But here's the problem.
Your nervous system can't tell the difference between a real threat and a perceived one.
It responds to traffic jams,
Work deadlines,
And relationship conflicts the same way it would respond to a physical attack.
And when that stress response gets activated over and over again,
Day after day,
Your body stays stuck in survival mode,
Even when you're safe.
So,
If you've been feeling anxious,
Exhausted,
Constantly on edge,
If your jaw is always tight,
Your shoulders are always tense,
Your sleep is disrupted,
That's not your fault.
That's your nervous system doing what it was designed to do.
The good news?
You can turn it off.
Not through willpower or positive thinking,
Through simple,
Intentional practices that send your body a clear signal you are safe.
And the first step is awareness.
You can't release what you don't notice.
So in this practice,
We're going to find where stress lives in your body.
We're going to shine a gentle light on it,
And we're going to begin the process of letting it go.
Let's begin.
