Hi everyone,
Welcome.
Today we're going to talk about what restorative yoga is.
Restorative yoga is a gentle practice.
Is designed to help you experience calm and rest.
And it helps the central nervous system to regulate.
So first,
You want to start with props.
Have your props ready and available.
We use blocks.
That look like this.
And if you don't have blocks at home or wherever you're practicing,
You can use strong,
Sturdy books.
We also use a bolster that looks like this.
And a great substitute for a bolster if you don't have one at home is a couch cushion or additional blankets.
And then we also use blankets.
All right and you can use a strap even if you have a strap.
You can also use an eye pillow or sand bag but those are some extra props that will help support your practice.
Mainly we want to focus on putting you in positions for 5 to 20 minutes that help you to relax instead of stretching or increasing range of motion or mobility like we do in other types of yoga and restorative we're really simply working on rest.
Helping to reset the nervous system,
And helping you to completely relax your mind,
Body,
And breath.
So with these longer holds,
We activate the parasympathetic nervous system that's in charge of resting and digesting,
Repairing and rebuilding.
