Hi.
I'm really glad you pressed play today.
If you're listening to this,
I'm guessing today feels a little lonely.
Maybe nothing particularly difficult has happened.
Or maybe it has.
Either way,
I'm grateful you're here.
For the next few minutes,
You don't have to sit with this feeling completely by yourself.
Just let my voice keep you company for a little while.
Take a slow,
Comfortable breath in.
And gently breathe out.
There's nowhere else you need to be for the next few minutes.
We're simply sharing this quiet moment together.
Sometimes that's enough.
Loneliness can be incredibly convincing.
It tells us that everyone else has people.
That everyone else belongs somewhere.
That everyone else has someone to text,
Someone to call.
Someone who notices when they're having a hard day.
But loneliness rarely tells the whole story.
Right now there are people all over the world carrying the very same feeling you're carrying.
Some are sitting in busy family homes.
Some are in small apartments.
Some are staying in hotel rooms.
So I'm a driving home from work.
Some are lying awake in bed.
Some are surrounded by people and still feel deeply alone.
You don't know these people.
And they don't know you.
But you're sharing something profoundly human.
Take another slow breath.
And as you breathe,
Notice the support beneath your body.
The chair.
The badge.
The sofa.
The floor beneath your feet.
Allow yourself to settle just a little more.
You spend so much of life holding yourself up.
Perhaps for these few minutes you can let something else support you.
I wonder how often you've kept your loneliness to yourself.
Smiled when someone asked how you were.
Change the subject.
Kept yourself busy.
Hoped the feeling would simply disappear on its own.
Many people do.
Loneliness is one of the most common human experiences.
And yet,
It often feels like the hardest one to admit.
So if you're able to acknowledge it today.
Even quietly to yourself.
That takes courage.
It's an honest place to begin.
Take another gentle breath.
And simply notice that you've stayed here.
You've given yourself these few minutes.
That is an act of care.
You don't have to leave this meditation feeling completely different.
Sometimes it's enough to remember one simple truth.
You are not the only person who feels this way.
You are not strange.
You are not broken.
And you are certainly not alone in experiencing loneliness.
You are a human being longing for connection.
Just like countless others.
And that longing says something hopeful.
It means your heart is still open.
Still capable of caring.
Still reaching toward connection,
Even if it doesn't always feel close.
Take one final slow breath in.
And a long gentle breath out.
Thank you for letting me spend these few minutes with you.
I hope,
If nothing else,
You leave with a reminder that someone understands how this feels.
And that you don't have to carry it completely alone.
If this practice resonated with you today,
You might also find support in my 10-day course,
Understanding Loneliness.
Together we'll explore why loneliness affects us so deeply,
How it shapes the way we think,
Feel and connect,
And gentle ways to begin reconnecting with yourself,
With others and with life.
Until next time.
Take gentle care of yourself.
