So I want to talk to you today about a particular way of seeing your life,
Seeing life in general,
And from this way of seeing life,
The being,
The way of being that comes from that.
And this way of seeing and being with life is to live as if love was the point.
Now if you're like me,
There are often times,
Sometimes they're short,
Sometimes they're long,
A moment,
A day,
Sometimes it seems like months,
Where I'm not quite sure what my purpose is,
I'm not quite sure what life is about,
What mine is about.
And in themselves there's nothing wrong with these periods where we're not quite sure what our purpose is,
Or if there is a purpose.
We can learn something from being with these times.
But sometimes we are really called to engage and rediscover our purpose.
In those times when we are called to reengage and to discover our purpose,
We may not be able to.
We may not be able to find a purpose.
Nothing to sink our teeth into there.
Everything seems kind of artificial.
Well one thing that I have consistently tried on and found to open my life up and to give a sense of purpose is to live as if love was the point.
As if love was the point.
So for example,
It's a day off and I slept in so I'm plenty rested.
I'm sitting on the couch.
I know that there's some dishes I could do,
Some housework.
I know that I could take a nap.
I could get into my Amazon account.
But I have some indecision.
I don't quite know what to do.
And then I remember,
Oh,
Love is the point.
I say that to myself.
I try it on.
As if love was the point.
What if love is the point?
What do I do now?
And as soon as I look out at my life with that viewpoint,
Love is the point.
Or even with the question,
What if love was the point?
Then all of a sudden,
New courses of action present themselves.
Or a fresh seeing of those same courses of action.
So for example,
I say love is the point.
And then I realize that doing those dishes is not just a chore,
But is something that will make my partner feel more at ease.
Or I say love is the point.
And rather than taking that nap,
Which I really actually don't need,
I put on some music and I dance.
And I feel joyful.
And I am showing love for my body.
I'm showing love for life.
I'm showing love for music.
And that feeling good,
That joy,
Will touch other people.
In this case,
More warmth for my partner.
For my cat.
So there are many different ways we can be looking at life.
Or thinking or feeling a particular purpose about life.
Sometimes we don't even know what that way of seeing or feeling about purpose actually is,
But it's there.
But this one,
To live life as if love was the point.
What if love is the point?
What if love is the purpose?
Whenever I practice that,
I'm not disappointed.
Whenever I practice that,
Something comes forward and something is satisfied in me.
So I invite you to try that on.
To think about your life,
To think about even particular moments where you don't know what to do and say,
What if love is the response?
What if love is the point?
What if love is the purpose?
To live as if love was the point.
Try it out.
