Together, we will explore the subtle moment when desire first arises—the instant before thought, action, or emotion takes hold. Rather than resisting desire or indulging it, you’ll be invited to simply notice its spark and rest in pure awareness. Through gentle attention to the senses, the body, and the flow of experience, you’ll discover the spacious stillness that emerges when the mind does not follow every impulse. This practice offers a path to greater inner freedom, clarity, and presence in the moment.

Hello there.

So we're going to do a meditation focused on the arising and the stopping of desire.

And it's not a meditation that says not to have desire,

But it's a meditation that's an exploration of the spark that initiates action and the spark that initiates the ego to say,

I need,

I want,

And things like that.

So please come right inside with me and close your eyes.

And I just want to invite you to feel into that beautiful,

Tender,

Internal terrain that is very intimate to you that you've known since you were a little boy or girl since you were five and seven and nine and 15 and 25 and 45.

And I just want you to come inside and slow down a little and just become aware of your awareness.

Feel your body with your blood pulsating through your veins.

You're just quieting down now in this inner world.

Become aware of your senses,

Your five senses,

Taste,

Touch,

Smell,

Sight,

And sound.

They're all triggering a sensory experience.

You're sensing things through your senses and just feel what that feels like.

You may see lights and flashes internally.

You'll hear sounds coming in.

You might have a taste in your mouth of some sort or smell in the room.

Become aware of what you're sitting on and let all of these five senses merge,

Sort of come into play as an experiential quality.

You may feel your heartbeat a little,

Your blood flowing through you,

Your senses arising.

Observe,

Just observe with no thinking.

I call no thinking tender firmness.

And what I mean by this is when thoughts arise with a quality of firmness,

Just let them go and become awareness once again and perceive.

So just perceive your senses,

The blood flowing through you,

And the arising of experience.

With your gentle awareness,

You're going to get a little more subtle here and you're going to feel the moment,

The instant a spark of desire arises.

And it might be that desire to think.

It might be that desire to scratch.

You have an itch somewhere.

It might be that desire to habitually talk about things in your head.

It might be that desire to worry about time,

Running late,

Doing this,

Doing that.

And so your job as a mystic,

As a spiritual yogi,

As a non-dual student,

Is to look for the spark of desire and stop it in its tracks.

So let's play with this for a minute and see what you experience.

Look for that arising out of nothing,

The spark of desire,

And don't let it indulge itself in any more than a second or two.

Look for the spark.

Itcha is the arising of experience.

Yana is the knowledge of it.

And Kriya is the action.

I'm inviting you to sit in the arising and not know what it is or act on it.

Itcha,

Just feel the arising of desire and then stop it in its tracks.

No thought,

Just observe and come to perceiver stillness.

You can see that you're more expanded when the spark of desire is not acted upon.

You're just in beautiful,

Precious awareness this second,

This second,

This second,

Without being or doing anything.

Talk about precious perfection.

That is what you are.

Sit in that experience.

Look for the spark and just observe without a next step.

No past,

No future.

Be the spark of life.

Be it.

Be that arising out of nothing,

That spark,

Without knowing exactly what it is or acting on it.

Just at the moment of the arising of desire,

Be free.

Don't respond.

You can feel the sensual,

Sensory quality of this second,

This ecstatic second.

Just be free in this second,

In this moment.

When you feel ready,

Just let go of any effort here.

What a delicious dive into present awareness.

Take a slightly deeper breath in.

Wiggle your fingers and toes just a little more.

I truly want to inspire you to come to this practice of quieting desire.

When you find yourself in too much thought or negative thought or aggravation,

Just come here.

It's the desire that drives us,

Which is,

Of course,

A beautiful thing.

But the yogi wants to have some mastery over what we react to,

What sparks us.

Is it fight or flight?

Is it expanded energy?

Is it holding us back?

So,

When you feel ready,

Just open your eyes very gently.

Come back into the room.

Thank you so much for meditating with me today.

I look forward to our next session.
