Hello,
Thank you for letting me join you on this journey today.
So let's start by becoming comfortable with the physical body.
Letting yourself just rest on a chair or lying down,
Feet resting on the ground,
Letting your physical body just find the most optimal,
Comfortable position.
When the body is comfortable,
It becomes a wonderful vessel for the mind to explore.
So as we settle in here,
Just begin to gently close your eyes.
Begin now to just settle,
Feeling yourself relaxed and comfortable.
From his book,
The Untethered Soul,
The Journey Beyond Self,
Michael Singer points out,
There is nothing more important to true growth than realizing you are not the voice in the mind.
You are the one who hears it.
So let's take a few moments today to start to realize that,
To start to practice just listening,
To almost allow ourselves to become a curious observer of this voice.
So as you rest here,
As you listen to my voice,
Let's allow ourselves to begin by focusing on the breath,
Feeling that inhale and exhale,
Feeling the air come in and go out.
Now as you rest here and as you focus on that breath,
You may notice yourself becoming distracted.
And of course it could be an exterior distraction.
Maybe there's a sound or a sensation,
But quite often for many of us,
There is an internal distraction.
There's an internal dialogue going on of to-do lists,
Of thoughts,
Of memories,
Worries.
And when we try to do something like meditate,
Like focus on the breath,
Sometimes we can get pulled away by that internal dialogue,
That voice of the mind.
So let's take a few moments here.
Instead of being focused in on the breath or focused in on anything else,
Let's take a few moments together to try to observe observe that dialogue,
To try to hear it,
Try to notice it.
Take a moment,
Let it come in.
And as we practice this,
As we practice hearing it and noticing it,
No matter what it's saying,
Good,
Bad,
Or otherwise,
Let's see if we can allow it to start to just run without feeling like we need to control it or change it or fight it or stop it.
Let's take a moment here to be that curious observer of the dialogue with inside ourselves,
That voice of the mind.
So again,
If you notice yourself getting distracted,
If you notice yourself getting caught up reacting to it,
See if you can just let it go and just come back to almost like you're watching a movie.
So I'm going to keep an eye on the time here,
And I'm going to ask you to sit for just a few moments and see if you can just observe this voice.
Now remember,
If that voice starts pulling you down in another direction you don't want to go in,
It's okay,
You didn't do anything wrong.
Just recognize that it's happening and bring yourself back to simply observing.
Good,
Even if you need to keep coming back,
Again,
Just be the curious observer of the voice.
Beautiful job.
Now I'm just going to remind you that on average we have about 75,
000 thoughts.
That's about 75,
000 times a day that that voice begins to tell us things.
Now not all of what the voice says is true or important,
Not all of what that voice says matters.
And when we can allow ourselves to back up and gain some perspective,
We can start to filter out what we don't need from that voice.
We can start to get ourselves into a better place by letting go of what that voice tells us.
And we're able to recognize that we are not that voice,
We are the observer.
So we can always change it or we can not listen to it.
We can choose to change the channel.
I'm so glad you joined me today in working to change that channel a bit.
Remember that any time you can come back to this,
If you start feeling overwhelmed,
Just close those eyes and just let yourself get a new perspective.
Let yourself step back and observe.
So for now let's begin to come back.
Maybe start to wiggle your fingers and toes,
Perhaps gently fluttering your eyes open or taking a stretch as you come back to this day.
