Welcome to a cozy chat on the Spring Equinox or Ostara,
One of the eight Sabbaths on the Witch's Wheel of the Year.
My name is Jenny Siebel.
I have been a witch for about 30 years.
And in this chat,
I'm going to give you a little bit of background and understanding on how to tune into the energy of the equinox.
So equinox,
As it sounds,
Is equal.
This is a time when the day and the night are equal.
And so what does that mean for you,
Right?
Twice a year,
The spring and the fall,
Things are in balance.
So what is nice to think about around the equinoxes,
Both of them,
Is where in your life do you need balance,
Right?
Very much taking our cues from Mother Earth,
From nature.
So if nature is in balance,
Then it's time for you to think about how can you balance out your life,
Right?
We are saying goodbye to the cold weather of winter.
We are welcoming in the newness,
The freshness,
The warmer weather of spring.
Animals are coming out of hibernation.
Birds are building nests and laying eggs.
Flowers are blooming.
There is all this beginning of newness,
Of freshness,
Right?
So we're,
On this day,
We're saying goodbye to the darkness of winter.
And we're welcoming in the sunshine of spring and its equal balance.
And then from here on out,
The days are going to start getting longer,
Right?
All the way until the summer solstice,
Which is the longest day.
And so when we were in winter,
We were reflective,
We were dreaming,
We were hibernating,
We were quiet,
We were going within.
So now that gets shed,
Right?
Just like a snake sheds its skin.
It gets shed,
That gets released.
Hopefully,
You've had time to tune in and go within and do some of that work in the winter.
And now it's time to spring forward,
Right?
To plant your seeds,
To write down your goals,
Your wishes,
Your dreams,
Your hopes,
Your manifestations.
For a lot of astrologers,
They look at the spring equinox,
It's also the beginning of Aries,
As the astrological new year.
And to me,
As a witch,
This really resonates because I don't,
The new year in the winter or the fall,
A lot of witches celebrate the new year around Samhain.
We celebrate on the regular calendar,
New year in January.
Neither one of those times really feels all that aligned for me personally,
Because it's dark and it's cold,
Doesn't feel new.
It doesn't feel fresh,
But spring equinox,
Things are blooming,
Animals are having babies,
This feels new,
This feels fresh to me.
So personally,
I treat this time as the new year.
And I do my New Year's resolutions,
I make vision boards,
I do set goals,
I manifest,
This is what I personally think is the energy of the spring equinox.
So one way you can look at the equinox is as the day of balance and asking yourself,
Where do you need balance?
Where do you need more light?
Because now we're moving towards light.
What do you need to release or let go of the winter?
What do you need to shed?
What's kind of holding you back from enjoying spring?
All those things.
But you can also look at it as a fresh start,
As a new year,
As new energy,
Because that's another aspect of this time.
So you have choices.
That brings me to some journal questions.
You can use these as journal questions,
Or you can use them in a divination spread if you read tarot,
Oracle cards,
Something like that.
So first question is,
What are your dreams for this year?
And that's a New Year's question,
Right?
So what are your dreams?
So you probably spent a lot of winter dreaming,
Thinking,
Right?
Reflecting.
So what are those dreams that you came up with?
What are your goals for this year?
If you could be granted three wishes for this year,
What would they be?
Now,
This seems like a silly question,
But it's not because it basically says to you,
If you didn't believe in limits,
Right?
Or things standing in your way,
What would you really want for yourself for this year?
Look at your answer for that question after you do that,
And then see if you can take any steps,
If any of that could actually be true.
Could any of that maybe come true?
And if so,
What are some actionable steps?
Where in your life do you need a fresh start or a beginner's mindset,
Right?
In meditation,
In Buddhism,
There's the idea of the beginner's mind.
Maybe looking at your day and asking yourself,
Where do I need to think of things as a beginner's mind?
It might be your meditation practice.
Yoga could be the vitamins you take or the food you make.
Where can you use a fresh mindset?
And then some other really fun activities for this time of year is depending on where you live,
But foraging safely for spring greens,
Looking for signs of new life.
I love to take a walk at this time with my children and look for buds on trees and look for birds getting things for nests,
Like really looking for that.
It's a great time to work with rose quartz because rose quartz is a very compassionate,
Loving,
Soft crystal that really promotes self-love,
But it's very soft.
It's not an intense energy.
And this is a great time to plant seeds in general,
Physical,
Like actually planting seeds,
But also spiritually manifesting,
Right?
And some other things to maybe consider is that Ostara is very closely linked to Easter.
So if you're looking at,
Well,
How do I decorate an altar?
What kind of foods do I want to bring to a celebration?
Or how can I tune into this energy in other ways?
Everything that Easter is,
Right?
The eggs,
The bunnies,
The newness,
The,
You know,
The flowers,
All of that definitely goes to Ostara.
Another very common symbol is a snake because the snakes are,
They come out of their hibernation at this point,
Right?
And like I said,
You want to kind of shed your winter skin.
And so that's a really great time to do that.
This is a very powerful time to manifest,
To really decide what this year means for you.
What is this year?
What do you want from this year?
Who do you want to be at the end of this year?
What goals do you want to achieve this year?
This is the spring mindset,
Right?
Really letting yourself have these fresh starts to put your dreams into action,
To set your goals.
And again,
You know,
To invite balance.
Where do you in your life do you need balance?
You know,
With winter,
A lot of times things get out of balance.
We may have,
You may have been spending a lot of time at home.
You may have been really alone a lot.
You may have been making very heavy foods.
There may have just been some things where you can take that beginner's mindset and decide,
I need balance here.
I need to just freshen up some things.
And this is a last idea,
Of course,
Spring cleaning,
Decluttering.
Just cleaning out one closet or one drawer will help you clear the energy a little bit in your home.
Energy in winter can really stagnate in a home,
In your surrounding area,
Even in your own body.
And so spring is really about getting that energy moving again,
Right?
Getting the spring greens in your diet,
Getting a little bit more exercise,
Taking walks,
Doing some yoga,
Doing a little bit of cleaning.
It's really about shaking up and dusting off and releasing the winter and really stepping into spring.
So I hope you have a wonderful Ostara.
And remember,
You can use that spring energy more than just on the day,
Right?
So the equinox is all about the equality and balance on that day.
And then after that,
Really ask yourself how you can bring in the spring.
Blessed be.
