Welcome.
This meditation can be done if you have a healthy thyroid,
A sick one,
Or none at all.
Your thyroid helps the rest of your body function,
And this meditation will help you focus on this small but important part of you.
You may sit,
Stand,
Or lie down for this practice.
Before we begin,
If possible,
Take a moment to stretch.
You can do a few shoulder rolls,
Circles with your nose,
Gently turn the head from side to side,
Or up and down.
I hope you have a comfortable spot.
Now take a deep breath and gently place your hands on the front of your neck under your chin.
This is where your thyroid is.
If it is possible and comfortable for you,
Gently tilt your chin towards the sky so as to stretch your neck out long.
If this is uncomfortable,
Feel free to resume a normal head position.
Do not put strain on your neck,
Just a gentle tilt is fine.
You may release your hands.
Take a deep breath and gently close your eyes.
Continue to breathe deeply and let your body relax.
Try to take deep,
Full breaths and release them slowly.
Now I would like you to visualize a beautiful blue turquoise light.
Imagine it covering your throat and it being bright and clear.
Breathe into this light.
As you breathe,
Something begins to form.
Keep breathing into the light.
A bright blue butterfly is forming.
Keep breathing.
This turquoise butterfly is your thyroid.
It is beautiful and healthy.
As you breathe,
Its wings gently flap.
Focus on just breathing with the butterfly.
You have nothing you need to do right now.
Just breathe with this butterfly.
Every breath there is a wing flap.
If thoughts or feelings come to distract you,
Just come back to your butterfly.
See its color,
See it move.
Just focus on it.
You are healthy.
You are strong.
Breathe into this butterfly.
If you get distracted,
Focus on the wings flapping gently.
You are healthy.
You are strong.
Now imagine your butterfly shrinking,
Not leaving you,
Just getting smaller and going back inside of your throat.
Gently place your hands on your neck and give a moment of gratitude for your thyroid.
Take another deep breath and slowly open your eyes.
Whenever you feel sick or worried about your thyroid,
You can come back to this practice.
You can always remember your butterfly,
No matter where you are or what you are doing.
Here is to your health.
Namaste.
