This practice is a great way to introduce your 2 to 9 year-old to the power of affirmations. It is best if they can practice this exercise near a mirror. It is nice and short so that they can do this whenever they feel the need.

Welcome,

Friend!

Today we are practicing affirmations.

Affirmations are words you say to yourself to feel better.

These are always positive or happy words that fill you up.

For today's practice,

It is best to stand and face a mirror.

If you can't get in front of a mirror,

It's okay,

Just stand where you are.

Okay,

Stretch your arms over your head and take a nice deep breath with me and smile.

Now put your hands on your hips and stand like a superhero.

Okay,

So you are going to say the sentence I say after me.

Are you ready?

Okay,

Repeat after me.

I am brave.

I am loved.

I am light.

I am strong.

I am smart.

I am beautiful.

Okay,

Now I need you to do some thinking.

Can you think of a positive affirmation of your own?

Think really good.

Okay,

Once you have one,

Go ahead and say it.

Are you ready?

Say it nice and loud.

Good job.

Whenever you are not feeling your best,

Try this exercise.

All kids need to do this daily...rich, middle class, working class, poor, poverty stricken...there is a need, especially now, for inner conference and resilience...these affirmations are good first steps...
