This meditation is designed to be done while you are driving.
So you may think that meditation requires you to close your eyes and focus inward,
And many meditations do.
This meditation,
However,
Is to help you practice being present in a moment when you can't close your eyes and bring your awareness inward.
This is a highly transferable skill when you want to practice being present with a friend as you listen and you gaze into their eyes,
When you want to practice being present with pleasure with a loved one or by yourself.
So let's get started.
Keep your eyes open,
Keep yourself aware,
Maybe both hands on the steering wheel,
Maybe just one hand on the steering wheel.
Settle into this mindful space by deepening your breath.
Allow the breath to move in and out through the nose.
With every exhale,
Feel a place of tension release.
Potentially your shoulders,
Jaw.
Maybe seated in the car,
You can allow your belly to soften and your breath to move deep into your belly.
While you allow yourself to be present with your breath,
You continue to be fully aware of what's happening around you.
Whether you're driving on a long empty road,
Surrounded by traffic,
Or something in between.
Your eyes give you the information to stay fully aware,
Present with what you're doing.
Your breath allows you to be fully in this moment.
Experiencing yourself,
Your breath,
Your physical body.
Begin to notice the energy that you're carrying.
Maybe you're returning home from work after a stressful day.
Maybe there's a sense of anticipation as you drive to meet someone or pick someone up.
Just be aware of the energy that you are currently carrying with you.
You are generating from yourself.
Is that the energy that you want to be fully present with?
If it is,
Soak it up.
Eyes open,
Fully aware,
Reacting to traffic,
Laws,
And driving with awareness,
And also soaking in the sensation of how you feel in your own energy.
This energy doesn't light you up if this is not how you want to feel.
Acknowledge that you've created this energy for a reason.
Acknowledge what that reason is,
Perhaps to keep you safe,
Perhaps to keep you protected,
Perhaps to keep you from making the same mistakes.
Acknowledge and be grateful that you are able to have these experiences and these energies.
Then begin to transition your energy with your breath.
Take a full deep breath in through your nose,
Fill your belly,
Fill your chest.
And at the top of the breath,
Pause,
Hold it in.
If you're soaking in the energy,
Allow this to permeate.
And if you're wanting to transition,
Envision this breath inside of you right now,
Rinsing away that energetic stress,
Tension.
And when it's time to exhale,
Open your mouth,
Soft jaw,
Release it out through your mouth.
Close your mouth,
Return to the breath in and out through the nose.
And we'll repeat this again.
So your next breath in,
Filling your belly,
Filling your chest and holding at the top.
Again,
Either soaking in,
Savoring the sensation of this energy,
Or allowing this prana,
The air that's inside of you to pull away all those areas of tension.
When you breathe out,
Release it all through your mouth,
Soften jaw,
Relax tongue.
And close your mouth and return your breath in and out through the nose.
Steady and slow.
You can continue this process until you feel like you've rinsed or savored that energetic space.
Or simply continue to be present.
Even with all that's going on as you drive,
You may notice a deeper sense of connection to the present moment,
To the here and now.
Savor that.
For the remainder of your drive,
Keep this energy,
This simple breathing pattern,
This sense of awareness to your breath,
To your body,
To this moment right now.
Allow yourself to feel the pleasure of being present in a moment,
Even if that moment is in traffic.
May your journey be blessed.
May your energy be sacred.
May you bring more pleasure into each present moment.
