Massage is one of the best ways to release tension, relax & de-stress. To try to get the best out of our sleep, this meditation guides you to visualise your very own face massage. Moving through the head, face, neck & shoulders; the areas where we can hold a lot of unconscious tension, it allows a gentle, natural progression of relaxation of the micro-muscles of the upper body. Although this meditation is a visualisation exercise, you can follow the guidance & give yourself a lovely massage.

Prepare your body in a comfortable position in the bed,

Ready to fall asleep.

Once the body is ready,

Slowly close your eyes and allow all the muscles of the face to relax.

The neck and shoulders to relax.

The whole body held and supported.

Surrender the entire weight of the body,

Knowing that you are safe,

That you are supported.

And bring the awareness back to the face.

Imagining a soft,

Warm pair of hands gently holding the head from behind,

Protecting,

Cradling and gently rocking the head from side to side.

Almost invisible movements.

So soothing,

As if the head is floating.

Allow these healing,

Massaging hands to slide up and over the head.

Fingertips gently pressed onto the back of the head and the thumbs massaging the forehead,

Losing the lines,

Any tension or worry from the furrows of the forehead.

Moving from the inside,

Sliding from the center point out to the sides of the head,

The temples,

The perfect amount of pressure.

So soft and strong.

Smoothing the lines of the forehead.

Smoothing the forehead.

Smoothing the top of the eyebrows.

The thumbs stop at the temples and start to make small circles,

Massaging these wonderful pressure points either side of the eyes.

Any headaches or stress tension in the neck slowly dissolving as the warm,

Gentle massage of the thumbs on the temples rotates round and round.

Now imagine the fingers massaging the scalp behind the ears,

Down the back of the neck.

Gently caressing the curves of the ears.

The hands coming back to cover the face.

Imagine the fingertips of the hands massaging the muscles of the cheeks,

The cheekbones and all the muscles around the eyes.

Small movements to release,

To restore,

To bring calm so all these muscles can take the rest they deserve.

Allow these soft fingertips to massage the jawline from the bottom of the ears all the way down to the chin.

Small,

Gentle circles,

Warm massaging,

Releasing the tension held in the connective tissue of the jaw.

Underneath the jaw,

Sliding down the neck,

Massaging the sides of the neck,

The front and the back,

All the way down to the shoulders,

Feel the hands push the shoulders down away from the ears.

Feeling safe in the body,

Safe in the opening and release that this massage brings.

Allowing this tension to disappear,

Dissolving your face and neck completely relaxed.

Easy for a restful,

Restoring sleep.

Every muscle and every fibre completely relaxed.

Easy to drift away,

Drift to sleep,

Drift to rest.

Easy to drift away,

Drift to rest.
