This is Jeanne Robinson.
Welcome to this gentle guided meditation,
Reflections to the Message,
My meditation series on dog loss.
I'm so sorry your dog has passed away.
I know the deep pain you are going through.
When I lost my dog Lucy,
The deep sorrow I felt was almost unbearable.
My hope with this recording is that you will reflect on the deep bond you had with your dog and the message that your dog had for you.
Now find a comfortable place to sit or lay down where you will be undisturbed while listening to this recording.
This recording sounds best with headphones.
Do not listen to this recording while doing something that requires your full attention.
Close your eyes and start by taking four big inhales and exhales and just feeling yourself breathe and now returning back to your natural unconscious breath.
Just become aware of the movement that your breath creates in your body,
Feeling the rise and the fall of your chest as you inhale and exhale and becoming aware of the quality of air on the back of your throat as the cooler air comes in and the warm air exhales out and with every exhale just allowing that mind and the body to rest,
Allowing the muscles to relax and the body to soften and now move your awareness to your body,
The sensations in your body as you gradually settle back and settle down inside,
Allowing that relaxation,
That softening,
That settling back to permeate your entire body,
Allowing that deep rest to occur,
Rest from thinking,
Rest from doing,
Rest from the outside world,
Just being here now for this sacred time with yourself and as I guide you in this gentle meditation where I will have you reflecting on your beloved dog,
Your time together,
Your deep bond,
And the way your dog saw you.
All those years with your dog by your side,
Whether it was two years or 15 years,
Your dog was there right by your side looking at you,
Fully engaged,
Watching your every move,
Encouraging you,
Lifting your spirits,
Energizing you,
And sensitive to your every mood.
Your dog saw you and knew you like no other and if your dog could talk in all the years you were together,
What do you think your dog would tell you about yourself?
Take a moment and just reflect on that.
I know my dog Lucy would have said,
Slow down mom,
Take a breath.
What is the message that your dog has for you?
The message was in your dog's eyes as your dog looked at you,
As you talked to your dog and they cocked their head to one side as if they're trying to understand what you're saying.
Patiently waiting for you,
Watching your every move,
And predicting your future moves.
Your dog had a message for you.
Take a few more moments to reflect back and as you reflect back on what that message would be,
Be curious,
Be fully aware,
See what memories arise now.
And be open.
What images or feelings arise?
Be present with them and discover something new.
Now,
Just take a few big breaths right now.
Move your awareness back to your body.
Notice what is happening and be patient.
It may take time for that message to surface.
It is there.
The message will come to you organically.
Your dog knew you like no one else in the world.
Your dog saw you at your best and saw you at your worst and loved you unconditionally.
And just be present with your feelings.
I know this is new.
Allow yourself to feel the rawness of your grief and balance it out with tenderness toward yourself during this very difficult time.
I know as I moved through the grieving process with my dog Lucy,
With time,
My focus moved away from her death and moved to her life.
And your dog will always have a special place in your heart.
I believe your dog is with you right now in spirit.
And I believe that message will come to you.
The message of what your dog would like to say to you from all the years of being with you.
Be patient.
It will come and take really good care of yourself in these coming days and weeks and months.
Slowly bring your awareness back to your body and just take a few cleansing breaths,
Breathing in through your nose,
Exhaling out of your mouth.
And now whenever you're ready,
You can open your eyes.
Thank you so much for taking this time out to be present with yourself.
Please feel free to leave a comment.
Tell me about your dog.
I would love to know.
