The Shape of Love,
Written and recited by Janine Cerundolo.
What does love look like?
Is it melty,
Like butter in the microwave,
Bubbling up a bit when it gets too hot?
Is it colorful?
Does it like to dance?
Does it shift shapes depending on who's watching?
Does it despise the thought of a second chance?
Does it rally when you are tired?
Does it seem like someone you admire?
Does it course through your veins,
Or throw you off course?
Does it leave a scent of the way it went,
A trail to follow,
Or is it hollow?
Is it always within,
Or something to win?
Is it full of sin,
Or saved for your kin?
Is it hefty,
Like the rocks made up of mountains,
Or does it rise to the heavens like a fountain?
What does love feel like?
Can you touch its spine,
Do the stars align,
Or should we press rewind?
Does love like chocolate,
Or maybe you forgot it?
Does it enjoy sweet cuddles,
Or does it splash back like a puddle?
Does love feel the same?
Does it make it rain,
Does it soothe the impervious membrane,
Does it make us sane?
What does love taste like?
Is she sweet like candy,
Punchy like brandy,
Feeling wild or dandy?
Does she linger on your tongue,
Count her blessings when the day is done?
Does she treat you like a treat,
Help you conquer any feat?
Does love have a certain name,
Or does she refuse to be that kind of tame?
Does she holler when she yells,
Is she in the sound of bells?
Does she lay down on the sand,
Like a mermaid on the land?
Is she great,
Or is she grand,
Will she reach to lend a hand?
Do her antics make you sink,
Like you had too much to drink,
Heavy hearted,
Sometimes bitter,
Or is love never to be called a quitter?
What does love feel like in your body,
Is she haughty or just naughty,
Does she leave an aftertaste,
Letting nothing go to waste?
Does she amp you up inside,
Or is she where you go to hide?
Is love tender,
Is she true?
Does she find a home in you?
Do you give this love a place,
Through surrender,
With some space?
Let her have you,
Let her go,
And in every breath,
You know.
