Hello beautiful souls,

This is June B and welcome to a beautiful night's sleep.

Thanks for being here for another in the series Sleep Stories with June B.

Join me as I explore these amazing woods and look for some beautiful little birds.

So let's get into your favorite sleeping position.

Make sure you're comfortable.

Close your eyes.

And slowly imagine yourself melting into the bed.

Now let's go to your breathing.

Slowing down the heart rate and let's take some nourishing breaths together.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Last time breathe in.

Breathe out.

So here I am walking through these beautiful woods.

I am in one of the Caribbean islands on holiday and being toured around by a bird watching guide.

He has given us a little briefing of what we may come across and now we are out in the woods looking for these particular birds or any other wildlife we may come into contact with.

It is beautiful out here.

All you can hear is the birds singing and close to where we are is a natural spring flowing down beside us.

It is quite dense and even though it is a very sunny day and really hot,

The trees are so thick that it is cool and welcoming amongst them.

So first of all we have binoculars or cameras.

If we take sight of one of these birds we can check what species they are and tick them off from a list that we have.

Now on this list there are birds we are likely to see and there are some that we may see and there are others that are so rare we would feel like we won a million dollars if we were lucky enough to get a glimpse.

As I follow our guide I listen to the many different types of bird songs I hear.

Some are so soft,

Hardly audible and others are loud and piercing.

What type of bird sounds do you like?

Some people love to hear the sound of birds.

It is so calming to them.

For them it signifies nature at its finest.

Because I see birds that are all around and singing it means that the place is healthy enough to allow them to thrive.

The cries or sounds of birds can be classified into two types.

First chirping and then singing.

Bird chirping is rather simple but it means a lot.

Birds chirp to indicate danger,

Warning and communication.

Both male and female birds can chirp.

The singing of birds on the other hand is quite sweet and agreeable,

Often with a melodious tone.

I love to hear birds singing.

It is always so sweet to me.

I try to imagine what they might be saying to each other.

Now onto the look of birds.

Once you hear them singing and want to catch a glimpse of them,

They are beautiful feathers that make them visible to us all.

Although the feathers serve much more than outward adornment.

Feathers provide a light but tough covering and keep birds warm in cold conditions.

They also help the birds to fly.

The outer feathers around a bird's body form a smooth streamlined surface.

Helping the bird to cut through the ear as it flies.

So when you see them swooping and dipping out of the sky,

This is the same feathers that help them to create such wonderful air shows for our viewing pleasure.

The largest and strongest feathers grow on the bird's wings and tail.

Helping to propel themselves gracefully.

Apart from insulation,

Feathers can help to protect birds from excess water.

They may also be plucked to line the nest and provide insulation to the eggs and young.

Did you know the Caribbean is home to over 700 species of birds,

Including 171 species that are endemic to the region and found nowhere else in the world.

That is amazing!

As you can imagine,

We will be here until next week if I started naming all of these precious species.

Needless to say,

Their beauty is astounding and it is such a wonderful place to view them in their natural habitat.

Looking around and taking in all of the sights and sounds.

What a wonderful place to be.

It feels like my own little piece of paradise.

So as we listen to all of these beautiful birds sing,

Thanks for being here with me for a while.

Exploring the beautiful sights and the singing of the birds and the melodious calming sounds they produce.

I'm getting a little sleepy now and I'm sure you are too.

So as you slowly drift away,

Have yourself a great night's sleep.

And see you next time for another in the series of Sleep Stories with June B.
