Hello,
Beautiful souls.
This is Barbara,
And welcome to An Amazing Night's Sleep.
Thanks for being here for another in the series of Bedtime with Barbara,
Written by June B.
Today,
We will take a relaxing time in front of the fire.
Let's begin.
So,
Get into your favorite sleeping position.
Make sure you're comfortable.
Close your eyes.
Relax your muscles.
And slowly imagine yourself melting into the bed.
Now,
Let's go to your breathing,
Slowing down the heart rate.
And let's take some nourishing breaths together.
Breath in.
Breath out.
Breath in.
Breath out.
Breath in.
Breath out.
Breath in.
Breath out.
Breath out.
Breath in.
Breath out.
Last breath in.
Breath out.
Breath out.
Settle in now.
Get comfortable.
Let go of everything that happened today,
And let's relax together.
Let yourself focus on my voice.
If your mind wanders,
It's okay.
Bring it back to the sound of my voice.
Keep your breathing slow and steady.
Let's go on our journey together.
I am here in my front room,
And after a day and a half,
I am able to light up my fire and relax in front of it.
I have been pulled in so many different directions today,
And now,
It has been a hard day of me being really there for everyone else,
And not for me.
So finally,
It is time for some me time and an opportunity to fully relax.
One of my favorite places to be is in front of the fire on a chilly evening.
So let me explain to you all of the different ways I love being in front of the fire,
And ultimately,
How amazing a real fireplace can be.
Firstly,
To see it.
Sitting in front of the fire and watching the flames is such a beautiful feeling.
Let's explore that for a while.
Why is sitting by a fire so important to you?
Why is sitting by a fire so relaxing?
Why is sitting by a fire so relaxing?
The reason we experience so much relaxation when watching a fire is,
According to research,
Our mind is drawn into the flames.
And the longer this happens,
The more we let go of all the stress and constant self-talk of our everyday concerns.
We literally get lost in the flames.
In this non-distracted,
Peaceful state,
Anxieties are naturally reduced,
And your worries and troubles literally melt away.
Looking at the many different colors the flames produce is also beautiful.
Can you see it now?
Can you see it now?
All the mired and hues of yellow and burnt umber dancing in front of your eyes.
Many times,
Single flames dancing into tiny couples that melt into one new color.
Can you see how many different shades of yellow there are?
Imagine the flames now.
Bright,
Light and swirling around in front of you.
Dancing for your visual pleasure.
And what a dance it is.
They talk about the dance of the bumblebee.
Well,
This is the dance of the fire flames.
You could say the flames were doing a dance,
And I would use this well-known phrase.
Trip the light fantastic.
This is a phrase used by a very famous English poet called John Milton.
The original phrase he used was,
Come and trip it as you go on the light fantastic toe.
Meaning to dance nimbly and with great grace.
That is what the flames do,
With grace and poise.
They trip the light fantastic.
Watch them now as they go.
I absolutely love looking at the fire.
There is something so comforting about looking at the flames.
Depending on what wood is used,
There is often little explosions of a blue flame,
As the oil in the various woods burns.
Depending on what wood is used,
There is often little explosions of a blue flame,
As the oil in the various woods collide with the heat and burst open to the viewer's wonder and delight.
Did you know that the enjoyment of the flickering light and the warmth of the flames is also related back to prehistoric times?
When stone-aged men socialized around campfires,
They felt safe and warm while bonding with friends.
They relied on fire and also social cohesion as the campfire brought relaxation and enhanced bonding behavior.
Then to smell it.
The smell of a fireplace is something not everyone likes.
For me,
It brings back memories of crisp fall days and relaxing winter evenings snuggled up beside a cozy,
Roaring fire.
I automatically resonate with the smell of a real fire because of the romantic notion it brings back to me of comfort and safety.
Different types of firewood produce a wide variety of smells.
And some have lasting fragrances.
Some of the best smelling types of firewood are hickory,
Apple,
Walnut,
And cedarwood.
I've now tried it personally,
Although I hear that applewood is the best wood to use in your fireplace as it leaves a lasting smell of sweet apples for weeks in your home.
I've also tried the firewood in my home.
I've now tried it personally,
Although I hear that applewood is the best wood to use in your fireplace as it leaves a lasting smell of sweet apples for weeks in your home.
Now that sounds so pleasing to me.
And imagine every time you walk into a room,
Having that sweet smell of apples tickle the hairs on the inside of your nose.
I'm so happy to hear that.
Then to hear it.
The sound of the fire is unmistakable to me.
That crack,
Snapple,
And pop of the flames as they dance across the wood is unmistakable.
Can you hear it?
The cracking as the wood is breaking down and the slight hissing of the flames at some points make this a treat for the ears and a symphony for the soul.
The logs make a crackling sound as the wood crackles and makes a sound of the flames.
The logs make a crackling sound as the wood heats and splits.
Damp wood by comparison often makes a slight hissing sound as you hear the droplets of moisture being forced out of the log.
The flames leap to life as the sounds of the flames encircle each other and die down only to be replaced by other cracking and sniping of the beautiful dancing flames taking their place and vying for your ultimate attention.
No matter where you look,
The flames are doing their thing over and over again.
You could literally be hypnotized by flames and this is a beautiful way to focus on something pleasing and good.
Lastly,
You can come back often for deep relaxation and stress relief.
So after knowing all these amazing facts about how we relate to a real fire,
How do you feel about the fire?
Time for me to get a hot toddy or a nice cup of tea with a good book and relax for the rest of the evening.
I'm not sure about you.
I'm getting sleepy even thinking about it.
So I'm ready to let go fully and surrender to sleep.
Thanks for joining me tonight and as you slowly drift away,
Have yourself a great night's sleep and looking forward to seeing you again for another in the series of Bedtime with Barbara written by June B.
Good night.
