Hello beautiful souls,
This is June Bee and welcome to a beautiful night's sleep.
Thanks for being here for another in the series Bedtime Tales with June Bee.
Join me as we explore a different kind of Christmas and all the things we will discover on our journey to sleep.
So let's get into your favorite sleeping position,
Making sure you are comfortable.
Close your eyes,
Relax your muscles and slowly imagine yourself melting into the bed.
Now let's go to your breathing,
Slowing down the heart rate and let's take some nourishing breaths together.
Breathe in,
Breathe out,
Ah.
Breathe in,
Breathe out,
Ah.
Breathe in,
Breathe out,
Ah.
Breathe in,
Breathe out,
Ah.
Breathe in,
Breathe out,
Ah.
Last time,
Breathe in,
Breathe out,
Ah.
Settle in now,
Relax and get comfortable.
Listen to the sound of my voice.
If your mind wanders,
It's okay.
Bring it back to the sound of my voice.
Let go of everything that has happened today and let's go on our journey together.
A different kind of Christmas.
What does Christmas mean to you and how do you usually spend it?
I usually have so many routines I repeat every year that make me feel comfortable and relaxed,
No matter what is going on around me.
Well,
One year everything went topsy-turvy and we spent a different kind of Christmas and do you know it was just as beautiful and magical as always,
Just different.
So this is what happened.
One year it was deep into December and the tree was up and most of all of the gifts bought.
I was having a great time as always,
Enjoying the festivities and all the season has to offer.
Then on Christmas Eve,
I came home and the door was open.
Someone had broken in and helped themselves to all the gifts,
Our TV and a few other valuables.
Needless to say,
I was devastated as there was no time to go and get any replacements.
The only thing I could think about was making sure the house was secure and safe for the next day.
Oh man,
What a difficult time for us as a family,
As you could imagine.
My neighbor saw the police turn up and the locksmith's van arrive when he came home from work and came over to ask if everything was okay.
I told him briefly what had happened and then he left while saying how sorry he was.
Now I am not close to all of my neighbors and even though we have lived next to each other for a while,
Neither of us had taken the time to get to know each other very well.
You know how life is,
Hello,
Goodbye and life goes on,
Right?
Well,
Enough thinking about him,
What on earth was I going to do about Christmas and my own family?
After the police and the locksmith had gone,
The place was dirty and filled with black fingerprint powder everywhere.
I sat down for a minute and started to cry.
Why had this happened to me at this special time of the year,
The most wonderful time of the year for me?
Then I heard a gentle knock at my front door.
As I wiped the tears from my eyes,
I opened the door.
I was surprised to see my neighbor and his wife.
They came over with a dustpan and broom,
A bucket,
Black bags and rubber gloves and without a word helped me to get my place back in order.
I was so happy to see them.
We worked for hours to get the place back into shape and finally,
About an hour before Christmas morning,
The place looked okay.
It was way too late for me to get any food or replace gifts,
So I had resigned in my mind to just sit and relax with some regular food on the day.
At least I was safe,
Right?
I went to bed.
Oh man,
What a Christmas this was going to be.
I woke up from a terrible dream and as I jumped out of the bed,
The realization that my Christmas was ruined sank in.
I felt down as you could well imagine.
Then once again,
I heard a gentle knock at the front door.
I went downstairs and opened the door and my neighbor's wife asked me to come over for a moment.
I said,
Okay,
Let me get some clothes on.
I did and went across.
Not knowing what they might want,
I stood at their door,
Actually about to turn around when the door was open and they hustled me inside.
In the front room was a table with an amazing Christmas spread.
The smell of fresh baked goods was wafting from the kitchen and there was Christmas music playing.
Did I say how I love Christmas music?
So they told me they used to have a huge family and all the kids now lived in different countries.
They do a usual Zoom call on the day,
Although they find it not the same and so lonely.
They miss the sound of kids giggling and laughing with joy and opening all their presents with glee.
So they wanted me and my family to come over and enjoy Christmas with them.
Tears filled my eyes again for the second time in two days.
Tears of joy and gratitude.
Tears of joy this time as I said thank you and went and got everyone across to our neighbor's house.
We laughed,
We joked,
We watched rubbish Christmas movies,
We played Monopoly,
We had crackers to pop and we had the most amazing meal with all the Christmas trimmings you could ever want.
On that one day I got to learn about my neighbors and all about the amazing life they had led.
About their struggles and joys and so many wonderful and heartfelt stories.
I never knew such amazing people live right next door to me and I felt a pang of guilt that it took a tragic event to happen for us to get to know each other.
As I always say though,
Everything happens for a reason and in the perfect time and space.
We ended up having one of the best Christmases ever,
Not our usual Christmas,
A different kind of Christmas for sure filled with joy,
Happiness and laughter.
It was such a joy to connect with my neighbors on that special day and we have gotten closer over the years.
Now they come over to ours every Christmas and they have become part of our ever-expanding family.
Sometimes you have so much goodness right around you if you would only take the time to open your eyes and see.
I found Friends for Life that year and it came about in an unusual and different way.
So why not try to see who is right on your doorstep this year?
Hold your hand of friendship out this Christmas and spread the joy of the season to each person you meet.
You never know whose life you may enrich by only saying hello.
Wishing you a beautiful Christmas everyone and hope to see you next year for more tales,
Fun and great sleep of course.
Keep the sunshine in your heart and enjoy this amazing journey we call life.
Until the next time we are together again,
Merry Christmas.
I'm not sure about you.
I'm getting sleepy even thinking about it.
So I'm ready to let go fully and surrender to sleep.
Thanks for joining me tonight and as you slowly drift away have yourself a great night's sleep.
And looking forward to seeing you again for another in the series of Bedtime Tales with Joon B.
Good night.
