There is no need to relive the events,
There is only a need to acknowledge that these parts lived in an unsafe world and were hurt often by many,
Many people because the parts need that acknowledgement,
Not because the individual has to relive the traumatic events.
The emphasis is really on the traumatic environment,
On it never being safe,
And except sometimes at school,
Sometimes children find a refuge at school,
Or in some other non-family part of their lives.
So it feels very,
It feels very rewarding to have embraced this book,
I can tell you that most writers,
When they're writing a book,
Often feel like this is impossible,
It can't be done,
I can't say what I want to say in any coherent way,
I don't have hours enough in the day,
And then over time our relationship improves.
So as we come to,
As the book comes together,
We have a sense of more love and compassion for the book.
And I do have to say,
What this doesn't show is that I had the most wonderful experience of working with a literary doula,
Someone who is a therapist herself,
Who is an editor and collaborator with mental health professionals,
Who is herself an EMDR facilitator,
So very much involved in the trauma world,
Miriam Ramos,
Without whom this book would not have been born.
And one of the joys,
And part of what made me come to love it,
Was this collaboration with Miriam,
We've been calling her my editor,
But just in the last day or two,
We decided she should be called my literary doula,
Because that was,
She really helped birth this book.
So thank you all so much,
I have to say it's been really fun to share,
I've never interviewed my own book before,
But it has been a real pleasure to share the celebration of its publication with you.
Thanks so much,
And I'll see you next time.
